Hmm I have the same one. It works fine for conversations, but music starts becoming distorted when I turn it up enough to hear over the wind noise. Oh well, I'm rarely going above 55mph on the supermoto anyways.

I see it as your still forcing sound into your ear while your trying to block sound which would work if you completely blocked out all the outside noise, bit it doesn't.And your probably have to turn in up louder then when you are not riding a bike.

Idk maybe it is completely safe though.

    Plug phones are the shit.

You can leave them loose and still hear stuff or push them in tight and hear basically nothing but the music. Way better than just ear plugs. Fuck earplugs inside of a helmet. I hate it.

While you're still "adding" sound by listening to music, the volume level required to hear music is much less when combined with foam plugs versus with regular headphones.

So, if you want to listen to music, it's better to use headphones with foam plugs to help drown out the outside noise.

Agreed. Tbh I didn't even know they had foam headphones like that, but I don't see how you can actually get those in all the way like regular earplugs since the headphone is still attached. Cause I roll my earplugs so they thin out and can be pushed in, when they expand the block out all the wind

Yeah, you are definitely listening to the music at a slightly higher volume than you would be if you were sitting at home. But, compared to using regular in ear headphones, they are much better.
The foam inserts work better for people with large ear canals, but I can make them work. They just don't go in as far as a typical foam earplug.

I have to use the small inserts on ear plugs. Can't use the foam ones because they won't smash far enough to fit in my ears and end up falling out

Yeah you guys are right. It's actually weird cause even really good earplugs only reduce noise by about 15 dB at the most. And dB levels inside a helmet can be at 115 on the highway. There is probably more to it though then dB levels to have it be safe for your ears

I'm no expert but it's probably all about air pressure.

Supposedly the earbuds I linked reduce sound by 25 dB. I doubt it, but it does work fairly well compared to my in ear headphones for running.

25 NRR. so you do (25-7)/2 = 9. So a 9 dB reduction. Yeah your running headphones would just make it worst.

    probably right

    Interesting read.

I wonder if how suddenly the "sound energy" builds makes any difference. Like a gunshot vs exhaust from a vehicle.

Interesting. You are probably very right. Thats the bad thing about a gunshot. It's very loud and very quick. I've lost some hearing and have tinnitus now because of hunting and such without ear plugs. Constant ringing in your ears sucks. I know have electronic ear plugs that let me hear normally and cut out anything loud enough to cause hearing damage.
