I have been looking into a PTO project, anyone know what the front and rear drive shaft RPM's are at idle?

Thinking of adding a T-case to Pre-Runner and use front for PTO.

What's the gear ratio of the gear you are in at idle?

I have 5 speed, automatic, so assume 1st gear, running at idle with no restrictiin. Ratio of first gear... i have no idea. Im totally in the dark on this one, looking for info.

From what i have seen, i am shooting for either 550ish or 1800ish

    Thanks bro :)

    Here are the gear ratios

    1st - 3.52
    2nd - 2.04
    3rd - 1.40
    4th - 1.00
    5th - 0.72

So if your engine is running at 1000 in first gear you be spinning 1000/3.53 or 284 rpm. Assuming converter is locked which it probably isn't.

4th gear would be spinning drive shaft at 1000 if engine is running 1000 rpm.

Um, the driveshafts don't spin when the truck is idling and not moving. Our transmissions (either auto or manual) do not have any provision for PTO, where power must be taken from the input shaft of an auto, or the countershaft of a manual.

This is a project. Im hoping to be able to do mod like some old jeeps and disengadge rear, or just have to jack up back if i need pto when still. Or swap rear with jeep front axle with manual lock hubs. Since jeep is oem under axle. This is a total project.. if it can be done type project.

    Goal is this... 2 things...

    1. Use a 4wd t-case on prerunner to run a generator off front shaft

    Or

    2. Run a pto wench off front shaft

Either case just need to figure out rpm's i'm dealing with. Also, has anyone ever seen or has an idea howto make a tacoma have a front/back only t-case?

Well, since you would need to replace your transmission with one from a 4wd to mate up a t-case, and still have a user-unfriendly system, I would look into what is called a split-shaft PTO system - basically, you can disengage the driveline to the rear axle, and engage a PTO. The speeds would depend on engine RPM and what gear your transmission is in at the time, and the gear ratios within the PTO.

The top one here could fit your bill - mount it where your carrier bearing currently resides, mount a PTO to it.

The vast majority of fire engines use such PTO system to power the pumps.

I thought t-case was bolt on for prerunner? And trd sport gears were 2.58?

Can you force converter lock like in nissans and others via ecu?

The transmission case is different between prerunner and 4wd models. Your rear axle ration is 3.73, but that isn't relevant to PTO speed.

How much power do you need from the PTO? Why not hook into the CRANKshaft at the front of the motor, use an air conditioner clutch to turn it on and off.
