My sweet baby, my backup veh a 2003 Toyota 4Runner has had a heart attack. My good friend a master mechanic at the local Toyota dealership came to the house and examined my engine and said she is toast. The veh is its self is in great shape I bought her with 7 miles, she now has 250800. You can see pictures of her on the 4Runner forum search (SAD DAY).

I don't have the expertise to do the work myself, I can do some wrench twisting but I would be way over my head on this.

My question is do you go with a crate engine, a rebuild a remanufactured or a LKQ. And if you do, who do you trust to purchase the new engine. Also my engine is a 1GR-FE 4L V-6. What other engines are interchangeable that would be a simple pull the old and bolt up the new.

I am in central Florida and would appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you all you Toyota guys and gals

    Jim

He suggested looking for a replacement engine and told me about LKQ.

Would be nice if he was willing to help on the side.

Ya that's what I was hoping, but he just told the stealership he's done with them. He didn't like their shenanigans. He has a new job designing boats.

    I'm confused.

    A 2003 4runner has a 3.4 v6, not a 4.0.

Any 3.4 with less than 100,000 miles would be the best route to take. Remove and replace and enjoy for lots of years.

Doesn't anyone have a source for an engine?
