Certain shocks are designed so you can "pre-load" them. Meaning the top end has a threaded fitting on it so you can screw it down shorter, or unscrew it longer. Thus, you can adjust the height of the shock absorber.

Ah, I should have figured that out. Makes sense now. Most bikes also have a preload setting for their shocks as well, I don't know why it didn't connect. Thanks for clearing that up, and for the example!

The problem with running bilstein shocks with OME coils is that the lift height is not really calculated. Especially when bilstien 5100 aren't even designed for use with 3rd gens. OME makes enough coils that you can really fine tune how much lift you want. if you use OME shocks 2888 coils supposedly lift 2" you can download the arb catalog with all spring specs. What you'll find is that (for the most part) they jump in 5mm length increments which equates to about .5" of lift. It's not fun figuring it all out but there are enough examples where you can find what you want. You should really tell us what size tire you want to run and how you're gonna use your truck.

    Now to answer your questions.
You're good on the basics as far as uca/diff drop/take

When I mentioned the springs settling they will provide a lot more lift before they break in (weight of the truck and cycling the suspension will do that) pic is right after I finished installation of my lift. Much higher in the front then it is currently.

The settings on the bilstien 5100 shocks have nothing to do with rebound they're where the spring physically sits. The first setting will provide 0 lift using the oem coils. The next setting .85 lift with oem coils. Then next setting 1.5 etc etc. there is a an adjustable collar on them that moves up or down on the shock allowing the spring to sit in a different location.

    I hope that helped

Definitely does help! I'm currently looking at this kit: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com...spension-lift-kit-for-2016-Tacoma_p_1595.html since I've only heard good things about OME and Dakar seems to be on point with their leaf packs as well. I'm getting the feeling my mind may change as I learn more about this stuff.

My truck is my daily, so there is that to be considered. However, I do enjoy getting out on the trails every few weeks or so. So far I've gone once with a stock truck. While it's pretty capable as it is, I imagine my needs & wants will change as I get into more advanced trails.

    Thanks again for the insight!

I say if you're not gonna be carrying a lot of weight in the bed just use my setup. I spent less then $750 and I just don't see any benefit to that kit minus the add a leaf. Pre shipping it was almost $1250

I wanted to keep mine moderately low (with plenty of clearance) to help road manners upon many other things. So 885 and .5 blocks were perfect for me. I don't think 35s are a good fit for these trucks personally so I think 1.5"/.5" is a pretty damn sweet setup. Great on road manners (just cruised through downtown Atlanta at 85mph) and more travel then stock with this setup (or bilsteins and oem springs).

I ordered everything minus the rear blocks from Marie at headstrong Offroad. Rear blocks were from toytec.

Also will more then 1.5" of lift and 33s actually improve Offroad capability? I don't really think so. I'd rather use that money for skids and sliders

If feels a little more solid but take bumps a bit softer then stock manageable steering still feels really positive. I wouldn't mind if it was a tad stiffer but it's super comfortable. The 90000 shocks may make it feel more sporty

I'm still learning here, so forgive me if what I'm about to say is completley incorrect.

Essentilly, I'm hoping to get a 3 inch lift. From basic research (and from what I've seen here) running the following should achieve 3 inches after settling:
      • OME 888's
      • OME 90021's
      • OME AAL or Dakar's
So, would that get me 3 inches?

One worry that I have is that the bed will ride higher than the front of the truck - not really a fan of that look. Considering this, which option should I move forward with on the leafs?

    Thanks for the help!

OME 888 should provide about 2.5" of lift. My 885 lifted about 1.5" and 888 coils are 10mm longer. Every 5mm=.5" of lift

I just got my kit in. I went with the Bilstein kit form Headstrong offroad. It uses the OME 888's with the BS 5100's and the Dakar spring kit. They anticipate that I will get about 3.5" of lift. Will post pics and measurements when I have mine installed!

So I ordered the full ome kit with 888's. One thing I see no mention of is sway bar drop bracket. Included? Needed?

Love reading threads like this and learning about this kind of stuff. I've come over from owning a GTI and know about lowering cars, but nothing really about lifting.

Can someone explain to me though what a diff drop is? I'm still a bit confused on what that's all about.

    Midnight,

A Diff drop is used to decrease the angle of your CV joints to eliminate vibration and reduce CV joint wear.

Check out this thread for a good idea of what it does and how it works.

icons, 4.88’s, winch, sliders, skids and some dinky little 285’s
Same here. I already have the slimline bumper and winch installed and after I get back from SEMA I will be purchasing this kit (unless I find something better/cost effective there.)
Did anyone use an 888 or 886 with a bumper and winch?

I wonder if the 887 would work with the TRD pro suspension to get added lift
