just thought I'd say hello and mention for us Canadians that you only have to December 31st 2016 to have your 2nd gen frame inspected. I bought my 2005 Trd off road today and literally drove it across the street to Toyota where they took pictures of the frame and ordered me a rental truck. Estimate for the frame replacement is 8 months. I said keep it for 3 years I don't care I'm in a free rental truck.

Anyway the previous owner bought a new Tacoma and couldn't be bothered with the whole recall time and such. I picked it up for $6000 with 120k miles (200k km) and when it's done it'll be worth twice that.

I have a 2004 Tacoma sr5 4x4 and the frame patching got old real quick. People want to buy it off me though. For more than I payed for my 2005 that'll have a new frame etc.

Got the call the day after I dropped the truck off, it's all good and approved for frame replacement. I know they said it would be covered, but always nice once the paperwork is finalized and my parts have been ordered.

I'm thinking Shocks, idler pulleys, steering rack bushings, sway bar bushings.

Oil pan maybe? Gas tank straps?

    anything else?

The dealer said if it needs anything not covered under the frame replacement campaign that they would call and need my permission to fix.

Also I can order parts from anywhere I choose as long as it doesn't hold up the frame swap once started. (good news)

If I get 7 more months with this rental I'll be happy. It handles everything I throw at it, and there's been quite a bit in my line of work. My only complaint is fuel mileage. Average 13L/100km with woods driving, highway driving sees mid to upper 11's.
My first gen I just sold was a 4 cyl. 4x4 and would never go above 10.5L/100km combined driving for comparison. But the 4.0 Nissan has so much more power. Feels close to my 4Runner power wise.

Here's some photos from this week at work, because everyone likes Photos!

Looks like a clearcut somewhere. I haven't seen views like that since my MNR days in Red Lake in the late 1970's.

It's a large clearcut on private land, planted with white spruce. If we (the crown) did this we'd make the front page of the papers.

    It's a few hundred acres.

In front of my truck in the first picture is 100+ year old red spruce that we did a nice shelterwood in, crown land, but people don't like the talk about the good things we do on public lands.

Red Lake is about 275 KM from Kenora, Ontario, near the Ontario - Manitoba border where in those days the road ended, at least the the 2WD road. Northern is a relative term in Canada, heck some people call their cottage in the Muskokas, north of Toronto as up north! haha. The real northerners, though laugh about such claims, you have to be in the real north, outside of the narrow population band that hugs the US border to be in the north. haha.

I'm not current about forestry management practices, but Ontario is a big place and probably 80% crown land. Nobody wants to give the government credit but overall they do a great job of resource management. The men and women that I worked with back in the day were dedicated, hard working and applied state of the art practices. I've planted a lot of trees in my youth, and now those are areas are pretty nice and valuable forests.

Well 5,000 KM later and the muffler weld at the inlet let go and keeps falling off. Here's my patch job until it gets in to Nissan Thursday. Fell off 3 times already, gets annoying. When you step on the gas and hit a few bumps it falls off towards the back.

Not good quality on nissan's part if you ask me.

A little update, my frame should be in tomorrow and the tear down should start Monday as I am second on the list now.

When complete I'll try and list everything that was covered as I know I've tried searching on here and it's hard to get a parts list of what exactly gets replaced in lay man terms.

My truck is 90% back together, just waiting on rear bumper bracket, mine was rotten.

As for brake lines being replaced, they all get replaced except the flex lines, the lines running along rear axel, and the hard lines going to each wheel.

Will have truck back this Friday and can't wait to bring it home and enjoy it! Needs a good clay bar and wax. I bought a professional rust proofing gun with various wand attachments, the frame is getting coated internally and externally as soon as I get it home. I've made a handful of stops out back where the mechanic is doing my frame swap, and it's nice to see that shinny new frame going under my truck!

New frame! I also replaced fan belt, all pulleys, front rotors, pads, 1 caliber, rear drums, powder coated wheels, 4 bilstein 5100's front set at 0.85", sway bar bushings, exhaust, tires, trailer hitch, rear bumper brace, spark plugs, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

On my frame swap it says new atf, didn't know they did trans fluid.
I'll post a picture of the work order later
