If your local dealer that you bought it from won't help because it's a "body shop" issue and the truck is under warranty, I would contact actual Toyota and go there. That is completely unacceptable. If that doesn't work take it to your local media.(at the most extreme). No reason why that can't "fix" or replace with a brand new truck.

Several guys have noticed the bed alignment isn't dead on, and in some cases its off up to an inch. The dealers quickly remedied it by loosening the bed mount bolts, shifting the bed slightly until it was aligned, and tightening back to spec. The bed just rests on the frame with a handful of bolts and isolating pucks. It's annoying, and I'm all for going in and having them align it better. A nice truck you spent good money on should have the right fitment on the body panels.

Aside from appearance; however, there are no ill effects that result from this. It isn't indicating a larger problem, other than Toyota needing to add a few additional quality control steps that they seem to be slipping a bit on in their rush to get trucks out to buyers.

Those of us who off road a lot have to make these adjustments every once in awhile as well. 30 Minute job with a 1/2" torque wrench. Bumper also has some adjustment in it.

40K is not that much... Thats very relative, to me 40K is a lot. But I guess that's what I get for working in the school system.

Yeah bed alignment is a slight issue with most 3rd generation Tacomas, looked at 15 different tacomas and tailgates were not lied up perfectly. Mine has almost no gap on right side, they say they just have to realign the bed.

On TW the fanboys can justify almost anything as "normal". They are almost as bad as Toyota Corporate.

OP.....damn....breathe brother. Easy fix. Going in swinging is usually never your best bet...especially for a first time visit. Firm calmness and maturity will net you better results.

All This 40k truck talk is driving me nuts.
It's not lot of money for a vehicle, but It's a lot of money for a compact truck. I get that.

It cost as much as my wifes Limited highlander. But.....it has basically all the same stuff. So there you go.

It was more than 15k more than I paid for 2nd gen I had for the last 10 years.
But after 10 years and almost 160k miles, when I got rid of the 2nd gen, I got over 80% of my money back.
So if history repeats itself, The truck doesn't cost 40k, it cost about 8. And 8 grand for 10 years of use is a no brainier all day.

    Nothing worthy
    Awkward huh?
If the bed of your brand new "quality built" truck is an inch out of alignment and your answer is its normal, pull out your tools and fix it..?

    Thats awkward..

If they can't get that right, makes you wonder whats not right that you can't see.. (I'm experiencing that now)

I guess those who agree this is acceptable will be the reason Toyota's quality reputation falters and they get away with this shit.

If it's not the end of the world, then its the principal. NOT acceptable.

I disagree, I just checked and mine is perfectly even on both sides. I'd say this is as simple as the bed being misaligned from the factory, which is a relatively easy fix, as mentioned earlier.

whats considered a lot of money is relative, to me 40K is a shit ton of money, to others its a drop in the bucket.

I didn't say to fix it.

I said it's normal. Normal as in tens of thousands of second gens and third gens have the same issue.

It can be fixed, though. Certainly not by an owner with a warranty, which is why I didn't say to "grab your tools and your balls and fix it yourself."

I'm not the average third gen thread jackass. I'm also not feeding the flames, just giving information that is widely available and well known.

Google "Tacoma bed misaligned" and see how old the info is. There's threads on this forum about it in 2009 and earlier, and since. I found that thread in just a few seconds.

Misaligned bumpers. Misaligned beds.. old news, even if the stories are new. They're all fixable, so certainly there is no reason for me to reply to the OP and say "fuck yeah man, they owe you a new truck!"

It's a fix that's been done countless times and can be done again, by dealer or by owner. Not writing off his concerns or yours, but there's no need for anybody to be upset about a common thing.

It is "normal" for this. I had the same issue offset bed on mine and I could only adjust it so much, but still a bit off. It's fine. My old 2000 S10 had the same issue and it was much "worse".
As long as the truck doesn't dog track because the axle isn't lined up properly, I'm ok with a little offset. Can only do so much unless you want to loosen up your suspension also and try to line things up. Even then, you might be surprised at the limitation of how much you can adjust this to acceptable tolerance.
It's a body on frame truck with a solid axle. Unibody Ridgelines don't do this, but not many like the looks of that thing.

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
If it was brand new.....did you not do a walk around? Check it out before purchase?

Judging by the pictures, I would think the bed being off that far would have been something noticeable.

Hope you get it dept with one way or another, good luck OP.

Most new car buyers probably don't stand 15 feet from the back of the truck and see if the bed is misaligned..

Walk down any lot with Ford, Chevy and GMC and tell me every single new truck has a perfectly aligned bed. You're probably going to find a few of those misaligned also.

It's not Toyota thing, it's a truck thing and a pretty normal occurance, also fixable.

Correct...... Just because I paid 40k for mine, doesn't mean I expect 40k worth of precision assembly. It's a truck!!! Like I said in a few posts above, unibody "trucks" don't have this issue.....

On both of my 2nd gens the bed was misaligned and easily fixed by loosening the bed bolts and adjusting it. My 1st gen and now my 3rd gen were aligned correctly from the factory. Luck of the draw I guess but it really is an easy fix!
