    I like this idea, but I would hate to constantly have to lift this tray up by hand to get at the contents below, so here's an idea for version 2:

    Make a matching bracket that mounts to the "ceiling" of that centre cavity, and have that ceiling bracket hold this tray in "by default," so that when you lift the arm rest, this tray stays attached and lifts up with it, exposing the contents below. Then add a hinge at the rear end and a latch at the front so that once the arm rest is raised, this tray can be unlocked & "dropped down" (on the hinge) to access its contents.

    I am not a cheap ass, I am frugal. Also I am not stupid, the vendor is offering a deal to buy, so why not take on that opportunity? The savings allows me to spend more on other things for the truck.
