You could literally go down the line and put this in every single thread and it would apply.

I've had 5 all gens and configs my 3rd gen has been the most problematic. Most minor issues but did have my diff replaced. Toyota took care of me though hoping it will be reliable. Yes this truck was definitely rushed into production. Hell a lot of it is based on the 2nd gen (frame, suspension components, bed, etc.). They dropped a new powertain in it, restamped some sheet metal updated interior and viola. I highly doubt this truck was in development very long, maybe sometime around 2014-15 when GM announced the twins.

Yeah, they are wringing their hands over the bitchers on TW as they try to keep up production with demand.

People buy trusting Toyota to deliver the usual stellar and reliable ride. Toyotas are known for their super reliable vehicles. Why I bought five. Didn't have to twist my arm. Always knew I'd get another great truck. I'd not only be pissed but likely not buy another Toyota after a bad experience like some have had with their 3rd gens.

I owned an early 2nd gen (purchased in December 2004). It had problems, just like some 3rd gens. Of note we're the hole in the firewall that allowed water to soak the floor boards, squeaky springs, and a supposed blemish in the plastic on the glove box door. In the first few years there were also several recalls.

I don't see that the 3rd gen is any different, other than that there are many more owners online now to report their issues.

And from heat I've heard the Internet and these forums haven't been around/popular like they are now.

So what data are you basing this off. I do agree from what I've heard the 3rd gen is shit, but that's based on the "the turd gen is shit" threads I have read here.

In 30 years I've had issues with all 5 of my trucks, the 3rd gen has had the least and been the only one with a TSB to correct them.

Some of you might need to take off the rose colored glasses as the earlier trucks weren't as problem free as you tend to believe. They were very basic modes of transportation with very few amenities and rode pretty rough unless you put something in the bed. Back in the 80s they were just another choice in the huge small truck market.

But people liked them, kept buying them and they became more reliable than anything else on the market. All Toyota did was keep building them year after year with minor changes as markets shifted. The trucks have always sold themselves as they still do.

They've never been perfect, just extremely popular.
