So, I did it, I've had a 16 Sport for a week now and knew within a day or two that I missed my 2nd gen immediately. I'm in the 16 financially good, so it shouldn't be no prob getting back into a 2nd gen.

What I didn't like? Engine is weak and underpowered, tranny doesn't know what it wants to do, and it feels too much like a car.

At least the 4.0 and tranny in the 2nd gen was tried and true ... pretty much bullet proof , and felt like a truck!

In short.. I shoulda known better!

2010 Trd Sport , you never looked so good

That's good to hear. I bought a '15 last summer and was tempted to hold out for a 16. I'm really glad I stuck with a 2nd gen.

It can't be that bad? Now, I haven't spent nearly the same amount of time as you have in a 3rd Gen, but I did test drive a 2016 AC OR, and it drove nearly the same as my 2012 DC OR. Seemed all familiar inside the cabin, except the cabin was much, much quieter and generally way less harsh of a ride. Acceleration was quite nice when I drove on the freeway. But I suppose we all have our gripes, my 2012 is noisy and rattles inside drive me nuts. Lol. Wanna trade trucks? Buy me a beer and we can swap Keys and and a hand shake and call it good? Haha

    Lol Wish I could brother!

I guess I'm just used to the 2nd gen, I've owned 2 and both were trouble free. And getting 212k miles out of my 05 and still goin strong!

    Maybe one day

I test drove a '16 dclb Trd sport and hated it, I went with a '16 4Runner trail edition with the 4.0. That 3.5 sounded and felt like a bumble bee under the hood.

The 3.5 leaves a lot to be desired. Gen 3 forum is full of complaint threads related to power and transmission issues. I don't think the 3.5 is bad but it definitely doesn't feel like a truck motor. The 4.0 delivers the goods with low-end torque.

Toyota did what they had to do to keep up with GM and the Ranger when it comes out. I'm sure Nissan is going to do the same. I would almost guarantee it killed them to have to change something so perfect. It's the pussification that the US is dealing with right now.

Full size trucks aren't subject to as much MPG efficiency scrutiny. Mid-size trucks get the shaft because of this. I am sure Toyota would if they could, put a 4.7 V8 in a Tacoma but their hands are tied.

When I test drove the 3rd gen a few weeks ago that was my experiance also. It just didnt have the get up in the low end like my truck has. Which is too bad because I liked the rest of th e truck. I just cant get over the motor. Maybe swap the 4.0 in the 3rd gen.
