Not sure this fits in the market place forum but I recently plasti dipped my skid plate. It's really simple to take off. It is held on by 4 bolts, 2 towards the front of the truck and 2 on the other side of the skid and then it is sort of latched over a couple small hooks that you just slide it off. I used a whole can of plasti-dip to cover it and that is that. Simple, quick, painless. I recommend the dip since it is so simple to take back off if you end up not liking the color. I did red and love it but didn't initially think I would so it would've been fine either way

    10mm socket, ratchet.

Loosen the rear bolts (2) and remove the front bolts (2). Skid can be slid forward and removed.

Personally I wouldn't use any Plasti-Dip type product, it isn't a paint - it's a thin rubber coating and it's a pain in the ass to fully remove, particularly (I assume) from something as heavily textured as the TRD aluminum skid plate.

I am mulling over using Rustoleum bedliner spray on mine, but not sure if I'll do that or keep it how it is. Not a difficult project, either way. Prep it well, use some etching primer and have at it.

Hoping someone on here can give me some best practices advice.

I removed my Pelfreybilt steel skid recently due to rust. I made the mistake of not rustproofing it prior to installation. Luckily its only surface rust for now.

My plan is to remove all the rust first and then primer and paint.

I started with a wire end brush bit and removed most of the surface rust. I discovered there are some deeper deposits so I need to take a more aggressive step.

My question is regarding the rust removal process. I'm not sure if I should sand it down using a orbital sander and some 100 grit or should I use steel grinder.

    Thanks,
