Ok, so I have installed a pioneer avh4300dvd and used axxess aswc with tacoma harness to integrate steering wheel controls. With the harness the only wires that require splicing or soldering are ground and power. I spliced and soldered into the radio ground and power when I installed and everything was working fine. Now the trouble is that it intermittently quits working. This usually occurs when the truck is cold (first start of the day), and usually resolves itself after some time. I can not for the life of me figure out the cause. My only thought at this point is that it may be the power and ground not being sufficient from the radio, or that the swc themselves are going bad? I have heard where people needed to tie into a different source for these but have not been able to confirm or see pictures of what they eventually tied into. Any help would be appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    Cluck

PS- it is not the axxess itself as I have replaced it with a new one and get the same results.

Have you tried a different power and ground source? Did your factory HU work properly? If your connections are good and solid it sounds like you have a problem with the HU.

I haven't tried another power source yet as I'm not sure where those would be? Factory worked fine. A bit more info on something that I noticed today as well. The head unit touch screen seems to be lagging or non responsive at the same time this occurs. As soon as the swc start working again, the screen works normally as well?

Remove the swc by unplugging the AXXESS from the system. See how the HU acts then. Though the odds of having 2 DOA AXXESS units is highly improbable.

It's hard to truly troubleshoot because it's so sporadic. I've been in and out of the truck probably 10 times today and all but the first time it has worked flawlessly. And the hu doesn't seem to have a problem unless the swc isn't working. I'll take it off next time I can make sure that the screen is acting up too and see if that resolves that issue. But other than that I'm not sure what it woukd tell me. I agree it likely isn't the axxess itself. Was hoping it was an issue with not being supplied enough power for whatever reason. I'm gonna try running it off of an addaswitch just to make sure it's not that. Any other ideas?

This morning the screen was not working again so I removed the axxess to see if it had any effect. As I expected, this did not solve the problem. I am 90% positive that the screen not working and the swc issues are both related to something in the hu itself as when the swc work the screen problems also go away. Any ideas or should I just deal with it until I can replace the hu?

Sounds like the HU is faulty. If it's still under warranty then get it replaced, if not..... start shopping. I don't know your threshold for dealing with it is though.

The thing about it is the physical buttons on the bottom row of the hu still work. I can control all functions through them but it is a little more cumbersome and thus somewhat unsafe because I have to take my eyes off the road long enough to find the buttons (they are small). Everything else functions fine. Im gonna start looking but wont buy until I find a great deal.
