Got an update on the 2017 TRD OR DCSB that had the shudder, and clunking shifts:

Was just informed that FST authorized a clutch replacement (at 72 miles), and that the flywheel was also identified as a culprit and replaced.

I am going to go back and test drive it likely on Monday to confirm.

First time Taco owner, had to have the manual. Nice to stay in touch with the powertrain on an everyday drive

Picking up the '17 Pro M/T this Friday. Had Toyota people tell me the manual transmission is best fit for these Tacos. The autos struggle a little with the shifting. Anyway - excited to pick it up.

Well let me tell you my store.
I have been looking for this truck:
    2017 grey 6 speed manual
    Prem/tech package
    V6 tow package
    Tonneau cover with bed lights
    TRD Off road
    Power tail gate lock
And I have not been able to get one. The last 3 weeks they found 2. 1 in philly but they wanted a TRD pro to trade. And the other in Florida but 5 dealers were trying for it. I've called 8 dealers and nothing and they say if I take a auto I could get it any day. But I said no manual no deal. I'll wait. Just frustrated.
The last truck I had was a 2007 TRD off road and tow package. It was a 6 speed manual. Got totaled from a accident wasn't my fault. Paid 32,000.00 for it in 2007. In 2013 had 227,000 miles on it. And only had to replace the front main seal (2.34). And just the normal stuff. They gave me 19,510.00 for replacement cost. I've waited 3 years and I want a 6 speed again. Just crazy that it's this hard to find me 1.

Just be patient. I was looking for a new Tacoma for myself since 2014. When I saw the 2016 I fell in love with the look and decided to wait. I saved up and was able to buy exactly what I wanted and got a fantastic deal on it. The 6 speed is awesome and I'm stoked about my purchase. Going 6 months with my '16 Sport DCSB 6 MT Black 4x4. I greased my Ujoints and torqued the Ubolts and have had 0 issues with my truck. Be patient!

@rockguitar316 is exactly right, be patient. And keep expanding your search, there are some dealers who have a knack for grabbing the right truck for you, as long as you're willing to travel a bit further to pick it up.

I luckily didn't have to travel too far. I think they had a typo on the price when they put it up on the website. I screenshotted it and called them immediately when I saw it and told them I wanted to come look at it with the intent to drive it and buy it. Nailed it.

Yup sounds like exactly the truck I waited for minus bed lights and power lock tailgate.. grey trd off-road with manual and premium tech. I ordered in April 2016 and ended up with a 2017...got it in August so 4 month wait but totally worth it don't settle man! I feel lucky I didn't get the 2016 because I dig the power rear window.

Are power tailgate locks an option now? I know there are aftermarket kits, but I'm not sure if you can get one factory.

I looked a little last night and only saw the aftermarket options as well...handy for sure but think I'm good with the manual option. I'm leery on adding more electrical stuff to this truck!

Went to Austin this weekend to do some bar hopping and the hotel we stayed at had valet parking. Yeah... they had nobody who could drive a manual. Tried to bluff their way through it but I wasn't buying it. Was kinda glad I always have Ferris Bueller's day off nightmares about valet parking. At first they told me I was going to have to park in one of the pay lots in the area but after a few words with the manager I parked my own truck in there parking garage with the manager in the passenger seat.

Love it....we're to dumb to park your truck so you will have to pay to park somewhere else...I hope you asked them to turn in their man card.

Yep... watching the guy getting his a$$ chewed by the manager for lying to me about being able to drive a manual was priceless.

Walking out the next morning and having the same guy have to let me into the garage for me to get my truck was funny too. Skinny little punk never said a word and totally had his tail tucked.

I dont find manual transmissions annoying. Rather, I embrace them with open arms. But, their ratios can be quite annoying for a daily commuter. Anyone have input versus the two for a commuter that wont be towing or rock climbing?

I commute about 30 miles each way through a bit of stop and go traffic, and I'd never trade away from a manual as long as I can get one. I usually am starting this truck in 2nd though.

Port-installed option available for 2017s in certain region(s). Not sure which - but doesn't appear to be available where I am.

Are these mainly highway miles or city miles?

That was my main concern too. From the numbers, it looks like the ratio from 1-2 is oddly matched. I dont mind manual in stop and go traffic but horrible ratios irk my soul!

Ive been waiting for the local dealer to get a manual 6 cylinder in to test drive but manual tacomas seem to be a rarity.

I took mine on a 3500 mile road trip shortly after buying it. I ran into many hours worth of bumper-to-bumper traffic in DC, Orlando, and Atlanta. It didn't bother me a bit. Aside from the big difference in the ratios from 1st to 2nd, it's a pleasure to drive and takes very little effort.

**Clarification** the manual transmission didn't bother me a bit. The jackasses keeping me at a standstill for hours while they rubbernecked bothered the hell out of me.
