Two questions....1. If a tread started that was based on religious/bible quotes, would it soon be banned, or would it be given the same latitude as this thread? And 2. If that thread was up and running, would the non-believers give those who did believe in God the same respect as is shown in this thread.

I'm not trolling.....I'm not trying to start an argument. Nor am I looking for someone to tell me what they THINK I want to hear. I'd actually prefer the truth.

As for #1 I have no issue at all with a thread created for people that are believers. I can not speak for the moderators but I would personally welcome it. I have always been very interested in learning about others views and beliefs. Everyone has a personal journey and everyone's belief is valid (as long as it doesn't harm) so yes I would very much like to see it.

As for #2 I think we've shown throughout this thread (what little I've been involved with it) that we are capable of having a civilized conversation about belief or lack thereof. I wouldn't discount anyone's belief just because I personally don't subscribe to it.

In Off Topic there is a forum for Prayers and Support that isn't very popular but there is religious discussion there.

I don't see any atheists talking shit over there and can guarantee you'd get banned real fast if you tried to.

This thread is over 6 years old without being locked.

I've looked at that thread before and found it by accident. I've given many thoughts to many that are in need no matter what belief system you subscribe to. We all need help and support from time to time.

the difference I see between religious faith believers and the opposite party, is that the religious do not hold the same power that the opposition does in ways of being able to drop ideas, and move on from them forward, turning a new page in efforts off progressing the daily unknown knowledge of the unknown unanswered mysteries that surround us in this world.

i feel like when you accept any certain religion, you accept certain parameters, and by doing so you are building walls inherently.

I agree. That is the reason I subscribe to science. Science is moving forward everyday with new discoveries, inventions, medicines, and answers to questions that were before unanswered. When a new theory or hypothesis is proposed there is a large group of scientist that are there to critically study, research, and come to either an agreement on that given theory / hypothesis or a opposite conclusion is produced. So there are checks and balances with science with no boundaries to hold science back from moving forward. Most religions are bound by laws that have been around for hundreds to a few thousand years and are seemingly unwilling to change and I (looking from a religious standpoint) can semi understand that. But with that you build wall around yourself and deny yourself discovery of what might actually be the truth. This isn't a knock on religion at all. Just my perspective.

I think a lot of people on here are getting confused about "religion" and a belief in God and in my case a belief in Jesus Christ. Also question for atheist's why does man have a conscious?

    Confused about what?

Man and most animals are conscious when awake.

I think you mean to ask why does man have a Conscience.

Man isn't unique in having a conscience though. Don't tell me a dog that knows he's done something good or bad isn't sentient with a conscience, showing sympathy, guilt, love, sorrow, etc.

Having a conscious is not exclusive to humans. Certain animals in the animal kingdom (of which we belong) are self aware and therefore have a conscious. And if I'm guessing correctly an elephant most likely doesn't believe in a higher power. But an elephant is most definitely self aware and shares social bonds similar to humans (just one example).

Now since humans are part of the animal kingdom we have grown to be self aware and also have a consciousness about us. We understand love, empathy, compassion, hate, and all the other emotions that many in the animal kingdom possess. So we are not exclusive to that club. The only difference that I can see is that the human species has a desire to either learn or... a desire for a belief in a higher power. Both of those are valid responses.

A well-worded, non-specific explanation that wraps it up in most cases.

I apologize in advance if this was already quoted. I didn't read all the pages to look for this quote below. If indeed it was already posted I'll delete this one.

"I just think it’s interesting to see how people act on their beliefs, you know what I mean? ‘Cause your beliefs, they’re just that, they’re nothin’, they're how you were taught, and raised. That doesn’t make ‘em real."

Following the line of comments and since Atheist are open mind...
Your believes doesnt make you a better person, is your behaivor and how you see and treat others.
Anyone can say I believe in whatever founder of religion , blah blah.... , as long you eat , toilet , bleed, etc , you"re not god and or reencarnation of god and or god son, etc. You"re here , same boat, if you can walk on fire, levitate, walk on water, etc, good 4 you, Does it change reality by doing that? NO!!. Every single religious founder had failed traying to save world of continuing getting degrated.. all founders got a good point, however followers forgot that we need to respect and treat others as we wish to be treated. That is why atheist are not trapped on following another human been or their books when the way of action is shame in you.
Then go back to 101 quotes posted many are good! At least make you think and questioning.
Basically to preach " Do as I say but dont Do what I do", then am I an Aithiest? ok gotta go, to be continue LATER❤️

I have no desire to get in on the conversation, but I just want to say good job to everyone for keeping it civil.

Just remember not to say "You're wrong." or "That's stupid" or something along those lines. That's easily interpreted as a personal jab and that's how these snowball out of control.

As far as I know... No one has said anyone is wrong for believing what they believe? You have every right to subscribe to any belief system you wish (and I "personally" encourage a strong look at whatever you choose to believe) as long as it does no harm in the name of whatever God you subscribe to.

Posts 228-231, specifically 230 had a chance to get a bit heated. Just an observation, as I would like to keep this thread open for other members to discuss.
