Dual battery set up is another option. Maybe not if you want it all night but for going to bed and waking up it works great.

I use the mr. Buddy in the same way. Heat the tent up for going to bed and when I wake up. It's really nice in the mornings to not have to put on a freezing cold jacket :)

For sleeping it's a sleeping bag, blanket, long johns, pj pants, and a fleece top or sweatshirt usually. I'll add hat and gloves depending how cold it is.

What are you guys doing to keep your bulk water from freezing? I would still like to get out a few times before its officially winter but frozen water kinda sucks.

Honestly just depends how much bulk water you are talking about , how much you need the next day, and what it's stored in.

If it's for cooking the next morning I'll fill the jet boil or pot full before bed. The in the morning it'll melt out as I heat it up.

For bulk...I haven't had a 5 gallon water can fully freeze on me. I kept it inside the cab if it was really cold out and during the day running the vehicle kept it as water.

I also would have a bottle or two in my sleeping bag to have drinking water during the night and the next morning.

Whatever you do if you are expecting it to fully freeze....making sure to take the lid off :)

    Not enough...
Goddamn, its been a busy month. I've pretty much been gone for the past 3 weeks, and did not even have time to look at TW. Went to a music festival, started a new job, had 2 business trips and going on another one tomorrow.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that this CVT Mt. Shasta is one of the best things i've ever purchased. Used it for the first time at a music festival. Festival was amazing. I was part of the crew, so I arrived one day early and there was a ton of space available in our camp, so I got a great spot. When I woke up the next morning, there were cars and tents EVERYWHERE. 25,000 people attended the festival. This tent is the ultimate festival living situation. Being above thousands of tents, cars and other people gives you a nice breeze and protects your shit from dust. There was A LOT of dist. My poor DJ equipment is still crying. So, I've lost count how many people stopped and asked about the tent, toured it, etc. (you are welcome, CVT). Many used it as a landmark to find their camps! ;). Extremely happy with the purchase

My only complaints are: the truck won't fit into the garage with the tent on the roof and I would need to add another sleeping pad, because im a side sleeper and the included pad leaves a lot to be desired.

Going camping again in 2 weeks. Can't wait.

Love My setup, but gets annoying when driving down the highway with all the wind resistance and noise!! And dont feel like taking the tent on and off so once i get my new taco ill keep the tent and awning on the trailer and maybe get bedrack to put the tent there when camping solo. Keeping it under the roof line will make a huge difference in MPG and wind noise 20160619_080408.jpg IMG_20160623_140727.jpg

Made my RTT mount for about $40. I just got my tent and wasn't sure of what I wanted to do for a mount so I just grabbed a few parts from the local stores and built one on the cheap. It was quick and simple. I will be hauling kayaks on the roof of the truck so it sits just under the roof line. I can undo the bolts from the bed and lift the whole tent and mount with a pully system, then tie to my garage rafters.

    Parts list:

    2 4x4x8 timbers from Menards $22

4 3" aluminum angles $9 (including cut charges)

    Misc nuts and bolts $10
4ea 1/2-13 square nuts to go in bed rails
    4ea 1/2-13 x 1.5" bolts
    4ea 1/2-13 x 4.5" bolts, washers and lock nuts
4ea 5/16x 4.5 bolts, washers and lock nuts. These fit the aluminum pieces supplied with the tent.

Still need a can of black paint to paint the 4x4s.

Lots of great RTT options out there for everyone based on individual needs and/or budget. I went with the CVT Mt Shasta extended summit on a BAMF bed rack. Really happy with both!IMG_1801.jpgIMG_1882.jpg IMG_1863.jpg

I use Relentless Fab bedbars. Beefy, affordable, I like the lower one which keeps the RTT pretty flush with the top of my cab.

Yeah, I considered going that route also, but I wanted to utilize my annex and needed a little more height for it.

Sooo after a year of being used on the truck. My tent is starting to show some wear.

    Tepui kukenam sky

A lot of the stitching is freying. I can see daylight through some of the corner sections, the cover has seen better days it's got a bunch of pin stripes and gouges in it, still repels water though. The zipper on the cover is working although I now use zip ties as the corded tab fell off somewhere this past weekend. And the rain fly has a couple pin holes in it.. I guessing a few embers from many fires. Nothing catastrophic, and I use my equipment hard. Other than that it's still good to go. Kept me nice and toasty when we woke up to snow and ice yesterday
