I'm new @ this so please bear w/ me. I put 31x 9.5 x 15 tires and a 3 in. Lift on my taco and of course it changed my gear ratio. I'm seeing that my diff. Code says that I have a 7.5 ring gear w/ a 3.15 ratio and two pinion set-up . What would be a good gear ratio and locker set-up to bring my 5 speed ratio back in line and what would need to be changed to do so ? My 5th gear ( power ) fell off pretty good.

    3" lift? A.R.E cap 285/70/17 moto metal 955 17x9
We need more info, like motor, trans,4wd, 2wd, 5lug or 6lug?
31x9.5 is not that big of tire, I ran that size on my '83 4x4 with the little 22r motor and had no problems, so more info into whats the problem would be helpfull.

I'm going through the same thing right now. I think I know what I need to buy, but I'm not sure yet.

2014 Tacoma 2.7 Auto 2wd 5 lug so my rear diff should be using 8.4. I sized up from 215 to 32x11.5x15 so I felt a pretty bad power drop.

So I would probably need to pick up an 8.4 gear(4.10-4.56), 8.4 Master Install kit, and a locker since I want one. Correct?

Idk, it's just something that I googled real quick. It seems to be accurate since most people on here will recommend gearing to 4.10. Green will set you back into your stock power gear zone. Blue under geared. Orange over. If I had to pick between blue and orange I would go with orange, since it can always fix it by sizing up my tire.

Pro tip for you 5lug guys.... go find a wrecked 4cyl 4x4 they all have 4.10s, which will be enough for the tiny tires. Pull the third and install. If you want a locker arb is always gonna be my recommendation. Expensive as they are, it's totally worth it.
