Buy one. I love mine, perfect size for my wife, dog and i. And imo perfect size/weight for a v6 tacoma. And as you know i'm a big guy. I even have enough room to shower in it. Some casita owners don't use the shower because they say it's too small.

Gotta love the molded fiberglass campers.

Dave, if you ever get down south to NC's Outer Banks, that Casita would look mighty good at the Frisco NPS campground. This is our Scamp on site P59. IMG_3152_zpsgbugsoik_7296b92e3fbe467eab65d6be4210418734ef8e73.jpg

    Hi Jon,
Nice pictures indeed! I will be towing a 17-foot Casita with my 2007 Tacoma V6-2WD in the middle of October going through New Mexico, and Colorado towards Southern California. From Rice Texas it is 1600-mile trip. With your extensive traveling experience do I have to worry about anything?

Is this a 5th wheel scamp on a Tacoma? I'm not too familiar with them...

No it is not a 5th wheel. Regular 17-foot Casita. I think I got some answers from Casita club. I am good to go. Thanks anyway!

Sorry for the delayed response - we were out camping. Scamp makes a 19' with a 'modified gooseneck' (Its actually a regular ball coupler that attaches to a cross member mounted in the bed of the truck). Weight is between 3200 and 3500 depending on how much 'stuff' we carry. Tows great. This is a post with pics of the hitch in our 05 that was transferred to the 12 a few years back.

Wow, this looks really cool! I'm going to have to rethink all of my options.. Would you happen to have pictures of the inside of the scamp? And how much do you think you spent on your whole set-up? It looks super awesome!

Elmexicano21192 http://www.scamptrailers.com for pics / more info and http://www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com to get a feel for pricing.

Most of the molded fiberglass campers hold their value incredibly well regardless of age. 'Deals' sometimes pop up and, when they do, you'll need to jump quickly with cash in hand. PM me if you have more questions and I'll be glad to respond.

I agree, i looked for a used Casita but the few i found were not local to me and they sold very quickly. I quickly learned how all brand fiberglass campers hold their value. So for a lil more money i ordered a new one. Al my wife and I are interested in planning a trip to the Outer Banks of NC. Never been there but heard a lot of good things about the area.

Early September to mid October is a great time to visit; Bugs and crowds have thinned out, still warm enough to enjoy the beach during the day and cool enough for good sleeping at night. Federal campgrounds at Oregon Inlet and Frisco are open thru 10/12, Ocracoke closes 10/26. Some private CG's are open year round. Come on down. Let me know if you have questions.

Sorry for delay. I bet you have this question answered by now! Honestly I have not taken my Casita more than 100 miles from home. I just got a new 2013 DCLB Tacoma so my towing impressions will be different with this engine. I look forward to taking it out.

Thanks for your reply, yes I posted that July 2015. Since then I towed the Casita with my Tacoma more than 2000 miles. It is fun towing it with Tacoma. Have fun with your DCLB!

Power pretty good with the 4.0? Really impressed with the 4.0 so far but I probably won't be able to tow with it until spring since I just winterized my Casita.

Yes no problem. Mine is 2007 and it has only 62,000 miles. I think I have no plans to think about another truck for a few more years. This year I might put another couple of hundred miles with Casita. But next year I plan to take it over a few more states to do some serious traveling and camping.

I just returned home from a 7000 mile trip pulling my 17' Casita with a '15 TRD. We went up the UP, west to Glacier, down to Yellowstone and back through the Badlands. The truck did great, plenty of power even up the passes in Wyoming. I cruised around 65 and got 14-15 mpg.

Just ordered some of these wheels for my Casita. Looks like one of you guys may have the same set? Getting some solar panels put in next. Excited for camping season!
