Well fuck dude! I guess Im still really curious with the *for now* part on the flip and longer shackles. In my experience with my setup, they work really well with the relocated 12s and my Deavers. I cycle the shocks but still slightly scrub the bodies all the way up the body at stuff on 34s.
Whats throwing me is dem King triples are really big to go outside the frame. Im not even sure you can get dem to fit unless youre notching the frame, plating in the rest and adding some some big ass spacers.

So here is my next guess:

63" HD springs and inboard shock mounting. No punching through the bed but reinforcement of the frame by boxing it in.

Why: 63s flex really well and cause they are 1/2 ton springs they support weight while still allowing for good bump and droop. Youll be able to cycle the suspension and with triples you can still get it to perform on the go fast stuff.

But then again who the fuck knows with your mad scientist knowledge of the Tacoma. So its all speculation and  for me.

Regardless, super stoaked to see where this goes.

A small handful of select mods.
He told me he was going back to inverted shackles, with stock springs and a block lift. The longer shackle is for bruh status and the bypasses will just be zip tied in for the mall status.

I'd buy the RDP in a heart beat if I had the cash. Always been one of my favorite builds on here, and nice to know someone I've wheeled with's truck went to a good owner. Looking forward to the progress.

    No. Just no.

God no...no no no no. Bunch of impatient little millennials.
Going back to inverted hangers. Fabricated shackles that are factory length, but use a poly bushing instead of the stupid loaded rubber bushing. Boxed and plated frame. Fabricated shock hoops, mounts, and crossmembers.
The bypasses are special order. Bypass tubes and remote resi port clocked parallel to the frame with a welded rod end.

    No.

He made a prototype. It will be production soon.

    Ha! No.

Millennials... I was born in 78 mang.

Just excited to see someone with the know how to make the truck even better. At least I was right about the boxing.

So many options to go with but why go back inverted? Just curious

    Yes
Inverted shackles perform better and allow you to run a leaf pack with much more arch and up travel and sit more in the middle of your travel too. Look at every high end rear leaf kit...all inverted shackles. The shackle flip is really just a " cheat " to get some more lift and droop from an off the shelf SOA leaf pack... I assume Jason is going SUA.

LOL. I know. I use that phrase as an endearing term. I swear :cookiemonster:

Why inverted? Well you asked for it.

Start by drawing a line between the front spring hanger and the pivot of the shackle/rear spring. Now draw the same line with the shackle flipped. As the suspension compresses, an inverted shackle will allow for more bump travel than a shackle flip. It's line will be higher. Typical responses are to either 1) extend your bump stops or 2) allow the spring pack to go wicked negative arch.

With that said, yes you gain some ride height (again think about the lines) and you will gain some droop. However, every single spring pack on the market is designed for the factory inverted shackle. Flip that around, and now your spring pack will be more loaded at right height when compared to the factory inverted shackle. Look at anyone who's done the flip. Their spring pack is almost flat at ride height. And since every pack is a progressive spring rate, expect your ride to be bumpier and payload decreased.
Some people allow the springs to go more negative. But be aware, this will decrease the lifespan of the pack and make it more susceptible to breaking a leaf when flexed.

I'm of the opinion that if your goal is anything even remotely mid to high speed, shackle flips are the wrong decision. If you are only interested in crawling, the flip will allow more droop at the consequence of less bump. Most crawlers aren't overly concerned with bump travel, but then again there are very few crawling rigs on TW. The vast majority of us are building a rig that we can keep streetable/DD and still be a weekend warrior. IMO a shackle flip doesn't accomplish that (very well).

Also keep in mind, if you bought OE shocks, your shocks are no longer long enough to allow for the added droop travel of a shackle flip. Which means redesigning your shock mounts or new shocks. I call this never ending cycle FOTFUSE: Fix One Thing Fuck Up Something Else.

Something else to keep in mind. A lot of the flips I've seen on TW, folks are using longer XJ shackles (my build included) to get even more droop. Something people seem to forget is a shackle is a lever. The longer the shackle, the larger the lever. Pair that with the completely shit 2 ply sheet metal C-channel frame and you are asking for bent and/or cracked frames due to the frame dovetail. Hense the boxed and plated frame.

And the last but not least tidbit on the shackle flip conversation. As I mentioned, every single pack on the market is designed for the inverted shackle. This is directly from AllPro's website for their leaf springs:

Na. This isn't going to be a super go fast build. I don't go out and hit the fastest shit I can like I used too. Keeping spring over, just with some better than your normal bolt on love.

Are you going to get some stock shackle hangers from a junk yard taco? I currently have a shackle flip and may just go back to inverted shackles for all the reasons you just posted...
