Researching options for my dad. Apologize if this is the incorrect place to post this question.

1st gen 3.4l Tacoma with ~230k miles, potentially has bad head gaskets. From our research it seems getting the heads checked/fixed and new gaskets would cost about the same as just purchasing a lower mileage engine. I've come across this company called JDM Engines Chicago. Not a lot of info available online as far as reviews. Also stumbled on a few other "JDM Engine" companies nearby. They have several ads on Craigslist offering low mileage 5vz-fe motors for less than $900. Seems too good to be true. They're also JDM engines and we're unsure about the differences (if any) with these versus his. Anyone have input on these guys? Are there better, more trustworthy options out there? Or are we better off just repairing the engine ourselves? Thanks!

Not sure but I'm curious myself. I see those JDM 3.4l motors up for sale on Craigslist out here in LA all the time for insanely low prices. Does seem almost too good to be true, maybe someone on here has some experience with them.
