Not sure if this has been done but has anyone removed the Toyota roof rack and gone back to a 'naked' roof?

    Links and info is appreciated.

A few years ago I installed the roof rack but kept the old roof trim pieces. I ember having to trim the plastic pierces which held the original trim pieces to the roof. Would I be able to re install the the trim pieces?

    Any problems going back?

    Thanks

Ok I'm still thinking about removing the roof rack.

Keep it on or remove it?

I was just trying to go the other route, but after installing one side, I ended up removing it due to quality issues. I did not trim the piece you mentioned, but I imagine if you use sealant to close up the nut-serts in the roof, and/or cover the holes completely with tape, then use 3M double sided tape on the bottom of the gutter trim pieces, I'm sure it would be fine.

I'd be most concerned with how secure the front is. If the front isn't going anywhere the whole piece isn't going anywhere.

Well if your rack will fit a 2011 double cab I will take it off your hands.

if i remember right, i dont think the screw holes go all the way through to the interior. what you need to worry about is up by the windshield get some good sealant, seal the very front (you will see what i mean) and if you trimmed the original pieces or they dont want to stay set, just use sealant or even RTV to make the OEM strips stay down.
