Sure, do ask for concessions. Just don't be surprised if they turn around and say they'd be happy to do that, here's the bill for the rental truck you've been driving. Having a free loaner of equivalent utility lessens one's basis for a claim.

Just the way things are. Just seems that internet forums attract a higher percentage of folks who enjoy trying to start stuff. Either that or the sense of anonymity brings it out in some who are too chicken to do so in real life.

I know which post you are talking about (maybe my post too ) but I don't think the mention of fan boys is all that wrong in a thread like this unless they identified who those fan boys are.

The only way someone is going to get pissed is they identify as a fan boy but in some sense of denial don't want to be outed as one. just my 2 cents.

    Now back on topic....

Trade in for a 2015 and get your million mile transfer case and Trans back. The 3rd Gen is junk, sorry fanboys.

I think there's a lot of frustration as many without problems are quick to dismiss those with problems and then throw out stupid nonsensical numbers or what not claiming a minority with problems. Gets frustrating to some and doesn't help anyone, clearly there are more than "a few/minority" with issues, these threads help those with getting them fixed, educating those looking to purchase or already have, etc. The 3rd gen section has been toxic from inception though, it started out as 3rd gen will suck, heres why and has now turned into its great and anyone who says otherwise is wrong vs. those that have the issues. Just the interwebs, everyone is a "tough guy" behind a keyboard. Sad as there are a few here that have gone silent after the nonsense of some of the newer members, or those that don't contribute but rather debate. And yes I said fan boys, is that an issue, its only an issue in a condescending manner which I didn't and don't use it that way but rather in the fact there is a blind following of people who think those with issues are only a few and the rest are over exaggerating them and then go into arguing matches with anyone who says otherwise. I'm a proud fan boy of the these trucks, I've owned a few to say the least, built a few, helped a few from here with theirs, etc. Cant see myself not driving a tacoma. Don't understand why this term is bothering some, TW used to be a place people could joke but primarily people helped each other. Too much sensitive now and everyone is offended by everything or something or other, IDK. Enough soap box for one day.

They can't make you pay for the rental if they originally agreed to cover it.

I was replying to bcrobbin in a very generalized manner. I was not thinking of any specific individuals or posts, but an amalgam of many years on internet forums of all sorts, preceded by years of participation on Usenet discussion groups.

In all reality it very well may be only a small percentage of the trucks coming off of the line with problems but that can still translate to thousands of trucks based on how many they sell. And it doesn't matter if it's only xxx number out of xxx number of trucks made, if it's yours that has the issues it sucks balls...period. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on mine and sorry to the ones having all the issues.

Sorry about your truck OP!! This kind of news never gives one the warm and fuzzy..... After spending time on TW lately I can't help but feel that my 350 mile truck is going to burst into flames everytime I hit the starter button....:bananadead:

Seems like everyday there's a new thread about someone's issue. Not saying there's plenty that don't have any in comparison but a new thread everyday about a new truck not to mention the many that had the minor issues at first like low transmission fluid, etc that got addressed so they didn't make a thread, etc. In 2 days there's been a few cps oil leak threads and transfer case threads. Kind of alarming. Besides my diff, which didn't appear till 2k miles in, mines been good so far.

Additionally, a far higher proportion of those experiencing problems will seek out a forum to get info / vent about it than will owners who are happy with their trucks and aren't into talking about them online / modding / etc.

Point being that the frequency of issues can appear artificially high.

... and yes it completely sucks when you're one of the ones dealing with the sh!t. It doesn't matter that two hundred other people's trucks are just fine, so posts that marginalize someone's troubles would be especially frustrating for that person I imagine.

Seems odd to me that the Toyota service manager would tell the customer to call Toyota corporate and say this truck has a lot of problems. Something doesn't sit right with me on that statement , also 8 posts starting with this problem and it's been in the shop for 11 days. No paperwork , no vin I don't know something smells fishy.
