I am about to order the Toytech ultimate lift kit with either Boss or Bilstein shocks, Total Chaos uca's, and new dakar leafs.
I am however considering ordering the kit w/o shocks and instead using fox 2.0 smooth ifp full coilovers OR fox 2.5 smooth ifp reservoir shocks.
The fox 2.0 are $900/ pair. The fox 2.5 resirvoir are $1,500/ pair.

My truck is my DD but i often drive down rough dirt and county roads so I want a real "do it all" shock set.

First of all, are Fox that much better than Boss or Bilstein?
Second are the Fox resi ($1,500) worth the extra $600 compared to the Fox 2.0?
Does anyone run the Fox 2.0 or Fox 2.5 resirvoir?
If so how does Fox perform in various road conditions, ie: highway 60mph + rain. Are they smooth and responsive at 25-50mph on rough busted trails?

    Thanks

For $900 why not go with some extended travel kings from wheelers off-road?

    Edit: looks like they're $992

If money isn't an issue, you might as well go with either Fox/King/Icon as all of those three are high performance coilovers and will give you a phenomenally smooth ride. Also remote reservoirs are useless in your application, aside from looking super bad ass.

Between Fox, King , and Icon, which delivers the best ride quality for my described use?
Also are they all ride height adjustable?
I only want 2"-2.5" lift up front.

I believe that they're all ride height adjustable. I have no personal experience, but I hear King are the, well, King. Plus their color combo looks so sexy.

I've ridden in a 2nd gen with Kings off-road and holy hell, there aren't words to describe the difference between his truck and mine with Bilstein 5100s.

Going 50 mph over ruts and dirt mounds like they're hardly even there is worth every penny I imagine. I haven't ridden in a truck with Icons or Fox setups but I'm sure they're just as good considering they are close in price for a similar setup.

If I had $3 - 4k to drop right now I'd buy Kings in a heartbeat.

Cant go wrong with any of those. If you want a firmer more stable on road ride then the icons will give you that being digressivly valved.

    Id go kings personally.

Dumb question alert. What is the "extended droop" option?

They're for use with aftermarket control arms, they will give you extended travel. If you're buying total chaos UCA'S might as well make the most of them and run extended travel co's. I'm running the extended kings with camburg uca's, couldn't be happier.

^^^ what he said. youl gain about an inch of travel. this unofficially gives you the right to call your truck "mid traveled" gaining you extra manhood points

My Bilstein 5100's ride amazing and for $150 for the set I can't say a single negative thing about them. I put about 100 miles of aggressive 4 wheeling on my truck every weekend. While I won't say the Fox, etc won't be an upgrade, you're not going to see significant gains over the Bilstiens until you upgrade the whole package to a long travel style. I would never personally dish for fancy coilovers stuffed into stock suspension but a lot of people do and are happy with them. How deep are you pockets?

I keep reading that bilsteins dont stand up to the test of time. If thats true im willing to spend some extra coin on something that will, especially if they deliver stellar performance and are easily rebuilt.

I would recommend the resi's though if you're going coilovers. Oil volume is an inarguable factor and having more is better.

One of my primary goals is to completely rid my truck of highway sway. If what ive read is correct, the use of aftermarket uca's will make a huge difference.
Do the Fox or Kings reduce sway better than Bilstein or Boss?

Nice, last weekend a bunch of us had a mod day where @uhplifted put Kings on his 3rd gen Taco, took several hours to do front & rear (including new leaf packs) but it all went pretty smoothly. I'm freakin' jealous

Fox smooth 2.0 coilovers and King coilovers are within $100.00 in price, but the rear shock price difference is enormous!!
Fox 2.0 rear non resi shocks are $260 a pair. King on the other hand are $750 a pair.
In my limted searching, I havent found non-resi King rear shocks for 1st gen.
Does anyone know if they exist?

Based on everyones advice i want Kings but my pockets arent deep enough to shell out an extra $500ish bucks.

I found my king reservoir rears off a guy, never used before, $375. But King said not to exceed 2" out the box
