Just wanted to toss out a few questions about remote start for the 2016 Tacoma with the smart key.
    1) I assume it's possible but what's all needed and what's a solid product recommendation?
    2) will this void factory warranties of installed by an aftermarket dealer?

    Thanks all!

I am really disappointed that in todays tech world, Toyota is late to the game with remote start on it's vehicles....a standard option for most other car mfg's.

1.) I have a viper two way and the range distance is double that of the dealer installed one.
2.) Probably will not void but if you have an electrical problem, the dealer will blame the installer and vice versa. Many dealers out-source this work so I called around to find the installers they use so they are familiar with the vehicle and knock on wood, no problems.

Mines an 05' but a family member has a 16' forerunner with an aftermarket remote start with smart key and it works good. The only problem I see, is that when you grab the handle to open the door, it kills the engine so you have to re-start it. I am told that the dealer installed ones do the same thing. Probably a security feature.

Awesome! What did you end up having installed? Are you using the factory lock/unlock fob? And what did it end up costing you all in all?

I am using the factory fob. I had it installed at Freeman's Car Stereo out of Charlotte, NC. The invoice is vague but it does show that a Dual Processor Can I and Basic Remote Start I was installed. Cost was $225 plus tax.
