Your audi had all wheel drive. Different from 4x4.
You had a centre diff that allowed all 4 wheels to turn at different speeds. When in 4x4 transfer case does not allow for different wheel speed so it will cause almost a braking action.

Different applications. 4x4 is fine on pavement if you aren't turning.

The video posted by BFA provides a good explanation between how the different 4WD and AWD systems work.

Do you need to know, or care?
Well I agree with that. And have a friend with a Suburu who has no issues. But it's a mall crawler, what it's designed to do. Tacoma is a true 4X4 with low gears for crawling. Not the same.

Seriously how the fuck do people buy vehicles without understanding the differences of what they are buying.
Don't all dealers do a walk around with the new vehicle with you and tell you the dos and don'ts?
Hell its the law here. If they release a car from the lot and do not explain everything to you they can be charged if you get into an accident because you didn't know what you were using.

Or how about do yourself a favour and read the owners manual. So many of these questions could be answered by just reading the specific 4x4 section of your manual.

    not at all lol
genuine question, do dealers not do a walk around with the vehicles?
or is it just that majority of the sales reps are idiotic cunts and don't know anything about the vehicles they sell so they don't mention any of this?

There seems to be a lot of threads lately of people either not using the search or just not reading. Read the manual, it will tell you everything the manufacture recommends and how to operate everything, it wont give you the wrong info.

On another note is it just me or do a lot of former WRX owners seem to be buying Tacos? lol
It seems a lot of people who just bought a taco came from WRX owners
