Anyone stripped out the interior yet and add sound deadener?

    Hey guys,
I've had my 16' TRD Sport DCSB now for a little over a week and no regrets on the purchase. I have however noticed a lot of cabin noise from wind and road while driving on the highway. I know trucks are notorious for this and from what I've read the back wall and floor are probably the largest culprits. Before I drop $400 on Dynamat Extreme & Dynamat Dayliner I thought I would ask if anyone's done this on a 3rd Gen and was it a considerable reduction in cabin noise?

Wow. No I sold my 16 sport back in January and wish I didn't due to seat comfort from position. Bought a diesel colorado. To me both are real quite as far as Road noise. Not sure that will do a lot if anything depending where noise you hear is coming from. Good luck.

I did this shortly after buying my TRD OR. I have the back seats folded down for cargo the majority of the time and noticed quite a difference after adding some dynamat. I removed the rear seats and the rear storage and covered that all with 2 layers.

I know for road noise line x works pretty good on the front inner fenders and rear wheel wells. It might be something to look in to.

I know there is some one on here who did put Dynamat all through out the interior of a 2016. Not sure who it was, I think it was around the start of "What have you done to your 3rd gen today", but I'm not sure.

I'm hoping that when someone with a '17 does this that they will photo document the power rear window hardware. Waiting for someone to come up with a parts list/install description of how to retro those parts (sans wiring of course) into earlier year models. Like my '13. :fingerscrossed:

While I am pretty simplistic in my needs, and can certainly live w/o the power window, it would be nice to more easily open and close when out and about on short trips.

    Shellshock,
Thanks for the pictures. Now I can see why the exhaust and road noise is so apparent in the rear of the cab. It looks as if Toyota put zero sound deadener or padding on the rear cab wall. This will most likely be my next mod in a few weeks. I think I will start on the rear cab wall and floor.

Supposedly they added more sound damping material around the cabin for the 3rd gen.

It's a truck, not a Lexus...... I've only done sound deadening when adding audio system.

It's almost pointless to add 25+ pounds of that stuff to dampen road noise. Just change your tires or buy passenger car tires for it, but then what's the point of having a truck!?

Based on the photos of the 16 above, 'supposedly' is a good term.

I guess "supposedly" doesn't mean completely lolo!

i wonder how well it would effectively deaden road noise in the Taco. it will for sure, but depending on what you're looking for it may or may not be the thing.

had a Chrysler sedan with dynamat throughout, removed the interior and trunk bits completely and the entire interior, all surfaces, were dynamatted 1 or 2 layers on the metal chassis, roof, doors, floor, everything. this was to accommodate a crazy stereo that literally cost twice that of the car itself. here was my experience:

it was TERRIFIC to deaden interior resonance from mid and low bass, and it took the edge off midrange distortion from reflection. it seriously tightened up the bass and very low mids, which i needed for dual 10w7 subs. but, with the stereo off, it only took the edge off road noise, rumble in particular. the rumble didn't resonate much, but it keeps coming from the chassis, so that was a limitation with a fairly cheap vehicle, and i'd expect the Taco to be similar. i'd do it for the stereo, but not for the road noise alone personally... too much work/expense for a moderate return. but hey, YMMV.

The did, just not the rear of the cabin apparently. There is a huge difference with rear seats up vs down - at least in mine.

    Breader3,

Very nice and clean job! Did you notice a significant difference after deadening everything? Was the interior panel removal pretty simple or a pain? Thanks for sharing the pics.

The stereo guys will also recommend layering dynamat with various closed cell foams to target different frequencies of noise. Wind noise is primarily absorbed by closed cell foam, while dynamat deadens vibration and low frequencies - so I was told when I sound deadened my FJ. It was quite a bit quieter with the closed cell foam and only a little bit of mass added via dynamat.

lol, I'm around hammer drills, bandsaws, powder actuated fasteners, and plenty of other noisy construction site things. and all the concerts
Hearing is shit, and need to keep music louder just to hear it at a nice level to my ears. Can't hear road noise

Only time dynamat is actually good is for audio to help get rid of vibration noise from bass. Otherwise can't see it doing all that much for road noise.

i did this. tried to do the whole deal. for the butyl sheets, neoprene closed cell and then the mlv. i think it's nice and quiet but don't really recall how loud out was before though. the firewall is pretty well insulated from the factory and it's hard to add anything over there anyway. i didn't do anything except butyl for the roof. a lot of the noise now comes from the Windows.

forgot to add, it's quiet enough that driving to work in the morning i have my music volume on 9-12 and i can still hear the low end pretty good.
