I just signed up but have been lurking for about 6 or 7 weeks, I purchased a new 2016 TRD Sport DCLB in August, but have owned Toyota trucks since 1996, so I am familiar with the trucks. My last truck was an 09 SR5 DC LB that I traded for the current one, it was a good reliable truck except for the frame starting to rust, it was the main reason for a new truck, it had more rust than any of the other Toyotas I owned. I had a 96 regular cab 4x4 manual, an 02 TRD off road DC, an 06 Tundra off road AC, and the 09, plus I owned a Corolla(03 S).

My observations of the brand as a whole are the first generations the 96, 02, and 06 Tundra seemed better built, more solid, than the current trucks, I still think they are good trucks but the fit and finish seemed the best on the older models. I really liked the 02 DC except for the 5' bed, I traded it for the Tundra for the extra bed space and length, the new Tacomas are similar in size to the original Tundras, I am an avid motorcycle track day rider and hauled a bike several times a year in the bed, tools and riding gear usually in the truck. In 20 years of owning Toyotas the only mechanical issue I had other than keeping up on service work was the Tundra had a leaking water pump which went out at 56,000 and was covered by the warranty, I had the timing belt and pulley replaced when the dealer did the warranty work on the pump, I just had to buy the parts. I know the new trucks 2016+, have had some issues but I have 3300 miles on mine and so far it seems okay, I'll make sure the TSB on the tranny is done and have the dealer manually check the fluid level at 1st service. I will change my oil more often than the recommended interval due to the fact I drive a short distance to work and between myself and my friend who owns an independent tire and auto shop, I hope to get good service out of the truck, plus our local dealer has a couple of good service techs. One tech has been there close to 30 yrs they call him Mr Toyota, so if I have a service question, he usually can answer it. If I find out any info on the trucks, I will pass it along.
