I'm a Tacoma noobie but have been searching for a well thought out suspension setup for about 2 months now. I'm trying to finalize what I should order and how I should set up my truck, so I need a little input. I just picked up a new 17 TRD off-road in quicksand. I live in north/central Utah so there is a wide variety of trails to go on. My goal is to go "fast" on dirt roads comfortably and attempt to crawl over rocks locally and in Moab. I won't be overloading the truck with a ton of stuff. I'm leaning towards total chaos uca's with king coil overs. And rears to match.
My main questions would be about the rear suspension and gaining the most travel/articulation. What's the best way to get the most travel in the rear without going through the bed or spending a fortune? I want to focus there because the front will be very limited I think.
I came from a Rubicon w/king coilovers and 37's and in the jeep world it seems icon isn't that great, is this true in the Toyota world? I'm open to any brand. I have just beaten my kings up on the jeep with zero issues so I started looking there. I'm looking for something that's fully adjustable as well. I will probably stick with 285/70-17's, I'm not afraid of a little cutting and grinding here and there.

Thank you. And yes, I have searched and tried to do as much homework as I could without asking questions so far.

I too am in the market for suspension and have been leaning towards King ext res. I don't really plan on doing any hardcore off-roading but really like the idea of the adjustable compression option. Anyone have first hand experience with this? Worth the extra money?

As for the rears, I've been seeing lots of people changing out the rear for the ext. smoothies shocks, but I believe there is some modifying required.

I have Icon's in the rear of mine. They have lots of travel with my stock leafs, aal and blocks, but its recommended to cut the shock bucket to make extra room for the reservoir hose

For us and possibly other's might think the same, a Mid travel is a UCA and Coilover set up getting more travel than stock. 9" or so.

Long Travel replaces your suspension with longer arms and longer shocks giving you 12" - 18" of travel and wider stance.

I beleive that the term " Mid Travel " does get thrown around loosely as well.

That is the reason we have a Long Travel Prerunner kit and Long Travel Race Kit for other suspension kits we have for other trucks.

Total chaos +2 is a mid travel kit it cycles 11.5 inches of travel. it includes upper and lower control arms. 13 inches of travel is considered entry level long travel, according to many racers and suspension manufacturers including Camburg and Total Chaos.

You still haven't answered my question, how much travel does it cycle ? , I don't need a lesson on suspension for I am highly experienced.20161119_171653.jpg 20140826_005616.jpg

    Woooo...pump the brakes. It's Thanksgiving!!

You asked "so when does +2 considered long travel"...I answered that.

You asked someone else how much does the TC kit cycle...not me.

Our Kit cycles 12" of wheel travel.

PS...Brenthel Industries is a Race company and races in the Biggest races in Score and BITD with our Spec TT, Class 1 etc...

3rd at this years Baja 1000 Spec TT class.

Like I mentioned, you can throw around " Mid Travel " however you like it.

All that matters is we have a +2 kit that can pull 12" of wheel travel. I can say Long travel +2, Prerunner kit, Mid Travel kit etc...we still let the customer know that it is a +2 kit that get's you 12" of wheel travel

We have other kits for other trucks that can pull 17-18" of travel.

It's Black Friday Thanksgiving was yesterday, relax I'm well aware of Brenthal.

12 inches of travel falls in the category of mid travel, sorry to rain on your parade
