Just popping in as I am leaving for Moab in two weeks for a 10 day outing. I too have the 880 installed and love it. I've got a CBI offroad ditch light/antenna mount for a 4' firestick and it is a very clean look and sturdy as hell. My setup cost around 100 bucks (Radio was a gift from a buddy.). I need a shorter coax cable as I went waaaay too long. But no issues. I considered adding the below to the truck. But I think I'll take the handheld version from the same company.

Just an FYI ruggedradios.com is one of the biggest rip offs I've seen in a while their radios ate just rebranded Chinese radios for 10x the price.

    Just a heads up.

Thank you for that! I'll continue to look for a more reputable brand.

Those radios are decent for the price the blue hand held can be had for about $20 from eBay and slighter higher from Amazon. The Mobile rig is about $80-100 depending on the source.

But didn't we agree on CB and not UHF for this trip?

Lol sorry, wasn't helping to decide. Just throwing a product out for consideration. I didn't read all 38 pages of posts.

I prefer CB due to cost and availability and simplicity anyhow. I'll still consider possessing a small quality handheld frs/gmrs just in case.

I will likely be joining up with the group in Texas or Oklahoma. I'm going to be driving to Dallas on May 2nd to visit my parents for a couple of days.

Hate when the alerts don't tell me about activity in the thread. I'm running pretty much the same exact setup as O906. Never had an issue. Created my own hood mount bracket. Mounted my Bearcat 880 where lady red mounted hers. The bearcat auto tuned the Swr. I used www.rightchannelradios.com to buy my gear a few years ago. They were a good source.

If you get the long cable, I ran mine along my door jambs to the backseat, under the backseat and my weathertech mat back up the center console to remove the slack.

Hi, Im currently living in Maryland and will be moving to San Diego in December and i was wondering if this trip is open to all? I would love to go out to Moab and the time frame seems perfect for me.

Currently still building up my rig.

yessir!! This trip is open to anybody! There's a large group coming from South Carolina (thread is in the first post), some from Texas, and other areas too. South Carolina and Alabama seem to be providing the largest groups though.

I agree, I think Moab is so wide open it's going to be a blast. Obviously we can split off and do certain trails and whatnot but each night is going to be a damn party haha
