I got a phone call before coming back to work about lifting the ban on exports to create more jobs and tax revenue. It was a survey and they just wanted my opinion. I thought it was hoax and told the woman a thing or two and hung up. The US is one of the largest consumers of oil along with places like China and India. We import an insane amount of oil in comparison with what we produce. There's a tanker in the New England area that came from Iraq or Iran...one of the first to make it to our shores from one of those Godless and forsaken countries that we tried to destroy. We, as consumers, will happily buy their 'blood' oil at a cheaper price to save us money in the short term.

To the north it may. We may be able to hustle some oil to Canada, but I'm not sure. They have the tarsands out west and need good clean crude to produce it. To the south in old Mexico they have more oil than they need. So that's a no go.

We need to ban imports from specific countries. But this would mean pissing off some countries. But if Saudi wants to cripple the rest of the world's oil fields then we need to play to that and stop importing Saudi oil. The tax revenue lost is millions upon millions from the sagging oil field. That alone should make DC stop and think.

Well, there you have it. It'll make no difference whether the ban on the US exporting oil is lifted or not. There's no one to sell it to.

Why was there a ban in the first place is what I don't understand.

I don't know the legitimacy of these websites, but here's some info. Apparently the US was doing better than I thought. In 2013 we produced more than we imported and in 2015 we produced more than anyone else. Mainly because Saudi hadn't opened their wells up yet.

I was just at well control school a couple of months ago and there was a hand that works in Saudi at my table. So I asked, "WTF and why is Saudi doing this?" He told me that of their egos and hate for the US and yada yada. But when he explained the amount of oil they have I couldn't believe it. They have wells just sitting idle that they aren't even producing from yet they keep drilling new ones. He said they'll drill a well and run 7" production tubing and to top that off they'll put on a 15k or sometimes a 20k production tree. This is why they can put out so much oil at will. A 20k tree means they have more than 15,000psi shut in pressures. He said they'll flow these at nearly 12,000psi. That leaves nearly a 5,000psi pressure drop through a 1" or bigger fixed choke. Only deepwater wells in the US can compete with that and Saudi has these everywhere: land and sea. Much more cost effective compared to a $200k+ dayrate of a drillship or semi...let alone the logistics of it.

Merry Christmas from the Bay of Campeche. I'm rigging up coil tubing again...day 12 of it.

They had a nice evening spread in the galley tonight. 6 full turkeys, a whole pig complete with an apple in its mouth, every cake known to Mexico, and homemade candy.

Sweet looking rig man! glad to see this post is still going.(kind of). Price of oil down to 37$BBL? ;( Theres practically no drilling going on here in colorado.. I had to switch career feilds here a few years ago because of this but its not bad. Iv been doing Fiber Optics the last 4-5 years now and its pretty good duty. Hey Brake Weight, Do you know off hand what kind of fiber cable/connectors you guys use on your rig?

Not a clue as to the technicals. We've got a E.T. like Rain Man for that. It is all NOV Amphion based out of Houston. There are several runs of fiber optic from the driller's chair to the PLCs for the equipment...and my work internet.

    Yes.
Take a look at http://diindex.com/ for monthly statistics and analysis on US drilling efforts.

I don't work directly in oilfields or rigs though. Sorry.

hahha rite. Yeah I'm not to familiar with off shore but i know pretty much all newer land rigs use fiber to and from VFD to driller cabin, to gens, service loop to top drive.ECT.. I know theres not that many companies out there doing it so theres money to be made!!$$ Just wish the boom would come back already!!

There's a niche for sure. Look into the deep water subsea mux line BOPs. Bundles of fiber as big as your wrist and up to 10,000' of it.

I need at least one guy in this field. we're slammed with work. Job is in construction, working on fuel systems. We've got a couple sites in Oregon, some in the Bay area and tons of work in Southern California. We pay travel and will train on the job. We pay for your testing to get all your fuel certs.

I'm always hessitant to poke around you oil rig folks for employees- yall are one of the few industries that can provide me with workers who are worth a damn, but the minute oil jumps up 10 cents, they disappear to that rig job for the short term payout that we really just can't compete with...

I need someone that wants steady work, but at this point I'll be happy to get 6 months out of someone to help fill in. give me a call, don't message me here i dont check them. 909-270-8 4 eight 8
or send me an email at
    Spencer . Kissick @ sunwestengineering.com

Looking for someone in SoCal willing to travel up to our sites in OR and NorCal for several weeks at a time. Possibly AZ and Idaho if we land those jobs too.

Anyone left? My rig stacked alongside another and I was sent to yet another. We just did a DST and brought it in with 10,300psi shut in pressure. Nice little well they've got. 99% oil, too.

With prices creeping up over $50 I think things will turn around soon. Once it tops $60 and is sustained for maybe a month or so the hiring will begin. Smaller outfits have started rehiring for short term contracts already.

I'm overseas mostly. But I'd imagine y'all been busy doing intervention and work overs stateside.

I spy a couple of injector heads and a power swivel.
