hello jafo! My name is rodrigo I live in Brazil, on the border with Paraguay. Here we also have only Hilux, we dream of having the new tacoma 2016 but only dream, it will never come to us.
I am very happy to see your publications, who lived in the USA and moved to Thailand, had the opportunity to test the two pickup trucks.
Tell me one thing, the total chaos this manufacturer to market these control arms? Or did they manufacture it especially for you?
What lift did you put on it? Have you ever had problems with the homocinetic hood?

I already own 2 ram 2500, with many American accessories of performance, carli suspension, HS performance, amp research, several other brands and I was a customer, I really like American products!

Another doubt. Sorry if I'm polluting the topic. These rear brake discs you picked up from which vehicle? Need some modification to the brake system?

Hello Rodrigo, welcome to the Tacoma site. Interesting cross section of folks I have met across the globe after posting this build thread. Few guys PM'd me from the Philippines, another guy from Malaysia and a guy from Thailand and now from Brazil. Pretty cool stuff.

Yeah the Tacoma is a really nice truck but I have to say I like the Hilux better. But they are both excellent trucks.

On the Total Chaos UCA's, they fit both the Hilux and Tacoma. The only really bummer is I wanted the 4340 Boxed lowers and for some reason they will not work on the Hilux and fail to understand why. The lowers look identical as well. My truck has a 4" lift and no I have not had any issues with the CV shafts or boots (Homocinetic Hood as you referred to them as). Truck rides extremely well albeit my wife does not like the tire noise but I do.

Yes the US aftermarket companies make some excellent products for wheeling. Australia sells some good products as well but USA built is best.

    Rodrigo,
The rear disc brake set up is off the Toyota Fortuner SUV offered in Thailand. Same as the Pathfinder in the US. Its a direct bolt in except custom braided steel brake lines.

And you are not polluting the topic, its a build thread and why we do them to help others

I find it very cool to make friends outside of Brazil, especially with other Hilux owners. Here in Brazil Hilux is considered a luxury pickup because it has a very high value of purchase, so few people make changes.

Do you think that the control arms of the total chaos is better in the matter of bigger tires? Today I own 275/65R18, they shave in the original control arms. Does total chaos help me right now?

In the future I intend to put 17" wheels and a bigger tire, probably 305/70R17, but the problem is that it scrapes us in the arms arms.

    Rodrigo,
The Total Chaos UCA's are far superior then the factory stamped units for a host of reasons. No ball joint or boot to worry about, Tube steel and reinforced with high impact urethane bushings. Mine is coupled with a Toytec Boss Lift kift I brought with me. I am running BFG KM2 tires (LT235/70R17's which they no longer make). I will likely go with LT245/70/17 next set and I really Love the KM2 tires. This 245 tire is about 1" taller in diameter then the 235 I have now but same tread width. I do not want to have to keep lifting or trimming the truck to accommodate tire clearance issues. I like the clearance I have now as I have no worries on clipping the tires on fender wells, frame or suspension "Things" as I go off-road or subject the truck to twisting angles when crossing canals. I primarily lifted the truck because I go through deep water which I experience here in Thailand a lot during rainy season. Lots of fun. About 3 weeks ago I was trekking through almost 30" of water along a flooded out road and crossed a canal.

In my honest opinion that 305 tire will cause you a ton of issues with hitting and scraping unless you lift it up 5-6". Its a strange deal. We raise it to put bigger tires then put too big of a tire and create more problems then lift it more causing other problems. I personally think a 4" lift on the Hilux is perfect. Its functional and looks clean(especially with the short bed). But "I" being the point, I respect that many want them really high and huge tires. I have done that in the past. Had 44"s on an early (1970) Chevrolet Blazer. Was fun for awhile but wasn't anything I would take on long trips.

BTW, Nice truck. Do you have the "G" or "E" option ?

Hahaha You're right, that's the way the trouble starts! I decided to buy a 40mm kit and keep the 275/65/18. My version is the same Revo G that is offered in thailand, here we call SRX.

LOL!!. I have a similar picture of all my stuff I added to my truck laid out. I will see if I can dig it up. I almost bought the ARB skid plate set. I went with the Rival set up instead and it has already paid for itself 2 times (Not that the ARB set wouldn't have either). One from a medium sized dog I hit at speed the other from a "Road Alligator" as I call them (Tire retread that came off a big rig). Those are deadly and the plastic or thin stamped steel deals are utterly worthless.

Hahaha here too the first thing they do before changing any part is to place decals TRD badges. JAFO I was very interested in these control arms. I'll look to buy.

Have you ever used king shocks in your tacoma? I used in my ram 2500 the king 3.0. I thought about importing them to hilux but I do not know how his lift works. He is very much like his hilux people.

Yeah, I see TRD emblems like that here as well. Most of the "Decals" here are quite ugly and worse off they call it a "Sportivo" . I was at the Toyota dealer this past weekend looking at a switch for my PIAA lights and they had a Revo TRD on the showroom. I looked at it. It has slightly better shocks (appearance anyway as they were red), TRD wheels that look like luxury wheels of a Camry, Some black/red Sportivo decals down the side, the interior has some additional stitching in the seats, there is a carbon fiber shift knob for the trans and the dash says "TRD" by the speedometer. Nothing really "Toyota Racing Development" about any of it. At least with the US Tacoma the TRD Off road usually was better shocks, tires and wheels. Honestly it is cheaper to make your own TRD with bolt on stuff like I did but it's really not TRD, Its really ARD "Aftermarket Racing Development". I put the decals on my bed from my Tacoma as I had an extra set along with the TRD grill and I thought it tied in nicely with the black grill. It really confuses them here, especially at the dealer. The TRD grill is a prototype and not delivered on new trucks for whatever reason. They are available direct from Toyota.

I have seen King Shocks. I have heard they are good but have zero experience with them. I looked on line at their products. Being I was in the US I ordered all of what I wanted to put on my truck before I left. Toytec was really good(I had a sales guy friend that worked there but recently left). The Total Chaos UCA's are great. Money well spent. They bolt right in. I need to order the reservoirs for my Toytec Boss coil over kit, just haven't had the time.

    Cheers

truth! I would very much like to do a hilux TRD like tacoma, these trd sporting from thailand are just accessories that do not help anything besides leaving the ugly truck. The tacoma trd comes with suspension, wheels, tires and beautiful badges.

    Nice truck!
How many lift was added with this suspension? Yesterday I installed my suspension, bout 40mm in front and 25mm behind lift.

Currently I put 265/60/18. Now I'm going back the old 275/65/18 tires.

Stock rear leaves and lifted front on the 3rd notch on the bilstein 5100, about 2 inches. I just wanted it to sit level with the rear.

I wanna put 285/65 tires, but theres some cutting on the body mount, dont really want to deal with it.

    Getting 17x9 rims soon... Hehe
