Following the crack would put it offset in the front to back alignment , I would just make the end offset the same or at least similar

Either way you are still letting your creative juices flow. I just noticed the logs on the left. :spy:You also own a lathe, so that got me wondering if you might have more tools than most of us. Just thought you might have cut the top yourself then ran it through a planer.

I might be a tool hoarder. The piece was flattened by a no. 7 bailey hand plane that I picked up at an estate sale. I've dated it back to around 1907. $20 well spent. I like a mixture of hand and power tools.

This is my most recent project. Its a kitchen island wrapped in 4/4 poplar that was left rough finished before getting 2 coats of water borne lacquer no primer then finished with a dark chocolate antiquing glaze to give it a very rustic found wood feel. I still need to make up a set of corbels for it.

I kept some pieces from a Black Walnut and Oak tree from being used as firewood

The pieces range in size from 5 to 9 diameter and are 16" long, I did seal the ends to keep it from cracking and have stored them for a couple of years.

Are they worthwhile to keep for a woodworking project at some point or is it just firewood?

Black walnut is always fun to work with. IMO unless its got a cool grain pattern Oak is easy enough to get that I might consider burning it if you haven't used it

A picture dump for my plywood rack for the shortbed.

First the middle support with the back wings.
    20161023_174059.jpg

Shows the cutouts for the support pieces. This lines up with the notches in the bedsides.
    20161023_174107.jpg

Wings are held on by hinges.
    20161023_174117.jpg

This shows the material removed so they fit flush in the bedside notches.

    All together
    20161023_174335.jpg

The wings needed a shim due to the fact the tailgate sits lower than the bed floor. This might be due to the bedmat.

Yeah, I got a K4 and did not like it. The indexing on the drill guide was a PITA. Got a K5 instead, very nice.
