No trolling, I'm just up in the air about these two tires.

Ah crap, after checking, it's not the Falkin Wildpeak AT51 (AT 51 is the Kumho). The Wildpeak is AT3. My bad.

    Your right, I'm confused :)

So I just gave them a try yesterday in snow and icy road. They did really great! but it wasn't very cold so the rubber was still soft I guess. I would be good to try them around -10C or -15C to see if they hold well enough for a complete winter. By then, I will have my winter set mounted on the truck so I won't be able to give a review, but for a snow fall in the beginning of the season, I am impressed.

Edit: Update! Today with roads full of snow and black ice on some spot, really impressed with traction! If I haven't paid that much for my winter set I would keep the Kumho for the whole winter! Didn't tried them on ice full ice yet, but my guess would be that they are better on snow than ice but should be still very good!

Why those should not be good? great tire IMO, rated for high millage, not really noisy and great in all kind of weather.

So, I'd finally like to get around to giving an update on these tires. I've had them on my truck for about a year and 10,000 miles. I had Toyo Open Country AT's for 70,000 miles before these and that is the basis for most of my thoughts. Compared to those, I would say these tires are: louder, softer, better in ice/snow, better braking and worse at avoiding hydroplaning. I've had kind of a noise with them that seems to come and go. Almost like a whirring noise that sounds like they're out of balance or that there is a flat spot that takes a while to work out while driving. I haven't had them in the shop to measure how they're wearing yet. As far as snow goes, these are pretty good tires. They do well in light snow. On ice, they're decent. Certainly better than the Open Country's. Overall I'd say if you're looking for a cheaper tire for light off road that does pretty well in snow these are a good choice.

So, I'm narrowing my options down and I'm between the Kumho AT51s for $536 or the General Grabbers for $520. I do the vast majority of my driving on the street. I'm leaning toward the Kumho. I know there is no real warranty on the Kumho, but tire warranties are almost entirely bullshit, so that doesn't do much to dissuade me.

Well, did you decide yet? I'm interested in the Kumho too. Would love to see some long term reviews of the P rated ones.

I ended up going with the Kumho Road Venture AT51 P265/65R17 and couldn't be happier. The ride and noise are a major improvement over the stock BFG Rugged Terrains. It hasn't seen any substantial mud since I got them, but all the reviews I've read were pretty positive on them. I do notice quite a bit more grip than the Rugged Terrains on wet roads.

Would you take a picture of the tread from front and the side walls pretty close. The tread depth on the P tire is like 3mm shorter IIR. Still interested in them though because they are so light. Would like to see real world close ups of this size. Thanks

IMG_0326.jpg IMG_0324.jpg IMG_0325.jpg I just purchased the Kumho AT51 LT275/70r17 and will be mounting them up early next week. This is a C rated AT tire that can probably handle some light to moderate off road conditions but also looks okay and will handle well on the pavement.
I chose this tire a number of reasons:
    1) I needed new tires. The BFG Rugged Fails that came with the truck are toast.
    2) The Falcon Wildpeak ATM3's only comes in 285 sizes and I wanted to minimize trimming or CBC and don't currently have my tools since I have been temporarily relocated.
    3) The BFG KO2's have mixed reviews. It looks like it depends on the country of manufacture. They could seriously suck or they could be great. Roll the dice?
    4) I will be doing a lot of driving on pavement so just need a good all around AT for a decent price.
We'll see how they hold up...
Here are a few pics of the new shoes. I also compared them against my stock 265/65r17 BFG Rugged Fails that came with the used truck.
Thanks for all the info brothers. This forum is awesome!

I really like these tires for the tread pattern, and the price... but in the size I need you can only get P-sized or E-rated. There is 10 pounds difference per tire! I really want the extra 3 or 4 mm of tread depth, but 40lbs of extra un-sprung rolling weight seems like it would kill the mileage.

Does anyone have close ups yet of the P-tire tread?

Just mounted up the Kumho AT51 (C rated 275/70r17) on my XD131 RG1 with 0 offset and 4.5 backspacing. The outside tread is just about even with the outside of the fender flair. This is what I like.
I had full realignment done. Came back with very close to 0 camber and toe and very close to 2.8 left/right front castor. It looks like I could have fit 285's without a cmc fairly easy. I do have the full OME suspension and SPC UCA's. 887 coils and full dakar.
I was out on the trail two days ago and bouncing around at full lock forward and backward and I didn't rub anything.
I know they are far from the best wheeling tire but if your like me and use the truck as a daily driver but also like to get out there on weekends then you should give this a look. the they are a very good alternative for the price will say that the Kumho tires look a lot better in person than in the pictures.

The AT 51s look great on your truck. I really like the set that I installed on my Tacoma, and I think that you'll like them too.

I only have about 2500 miles on mine.I really like how quite they are, and how much grip they have although I don't do any off road driving at all.

Kumho currently has a $70 rebate, and Sears has the AT51s on sale.. :rockband: Do the math.. :stirthepot:

I got on the Sears chat line and had an estimate emailed to me, I was also informed who in the area had inventory. I called the Sears Auto Center to schedule for install, and brought that estimate to the store. The manager was reluctant to honor the quote, but he had to...

This thread has been stale for a while but these tires have been around for a couple of years now. I need new tires in a 255/75-17 and these are on the short list due to, among other things, their light weight. I also notice that they are now 2nd place on Tire Rack's best of category list. Will some of you running them for some miles please give detailed reviews, good and bad? Also snow? Off road?
