Earlier this year the fan was an on again/off again proposition. Now it doesn't work at all. I suspect the switch is bad, but don't want to take the dash cover off without checking the fan first. Any plan of attack?

Fan resistor block. Easy, cheap fix. Pretty common with all brands of cars.

Blower resistor part number 20103 on Amazon.

    Should be about $15 bucks.

Part is located under the dash on passenger side. Look up fan resistor replacement vids.

Lights, 3in lift, tires/ wheels, being awesome
If it only works high it needs a resistor if it doesnt work at all unplugg the fan and make sure it has power and ground, you can also test the resistor with a test light plugged in to the connector and moving the switch back and forth and watch the test light dim and brighten, if all those happen and the fan doesnt work still you need a fan

Quite easy to test all of the above
I don`t think I ever had a switch go bad but first time for every thing
