    Back again:
    MIKE, where's Mike!
Was just on Walleye Central, and a guy was posting about his 2011 Tundra rusting out in the bed. He said there was a service bulletin issued on this, and that the dealer did all the work on it, but no one never mentioned to him about the rusting out area. Now that it's bad and out of warranty, the dealer and Toyota customer service say he's SOL, and they won't repair it under the service bulletin because it's out of warranty??????????
Don't make sense to me, they installed my headlights under a service bulletin that I received after being 4 yrs. out of warranty.
Are they putting it to him, have any thoughts or recommendations for him, or is he SOL.

    Evening Mike:
Any input on my last post? Pretty well spelled it out, the guy is saying there is a service bulletin for a problem he's having with a rusted out portion of the bed on his 2011 Tundra, and that the garage he goes to, or Toyota customer service won't address it. Read the post, and IYO what, if anything, can he do.
Shouldn't a service bulletin about a potential problem be honored if the problem shows up?

A bulletin is not a recall. It is info for techs if a problem arrives they have info to check and assistance in problem solving. Bulletins expire. We can still do them after but not on toyota's dime. Recalls never expire. Sometimes there enhanced warr. Enhancement for things that extend the warr. On a particular situation. I am not familure with that bulletin so I cannot comment on the situation.

Evening y'all. Out a couple nights camping, lows 27. Used a couple of my kerosene European stoves and the Coleman 426B three burner stove one night making cornbread and beans, yum. The kero stoves are nice as hand warmers in the morning, cook on one, warm hands on the other, still had cold feet.
Another delay on getting escrow closed on moms place, the lending bank forgot to mail checks out today. At least it is acknowledged checks are to be mailed.
Tree ripened apples are great, been eating them the last few days. Local small store is selling some of my potatoes.

    Morning all:
Ah ha Duane, selling potatoes! That's IRS form 12-2A form that's 132 pages long. The dept. of agriculture also requires 17 permits, and inspection for potato mites! :D

Made a run out to Cabela's yesterday, then continued on to Bass Pro shop. When I got on the interstate just below Cabela's and headed towards Harrisburg Pa. I made it about 30 mi. and then was at a stop or crawl, then up to speed and back to a stop or crawl, etc. for the next 20 mi or so. Was expecting to see construction or an accident or something going on, nothing! Never saw anything like it before when I went that route, when I came back, it was almost the same on the East bound side I was on, and the same thing on the West bound side I had been on. Heavy traffic, and I guess it was just backing up! :notsure:
It was pouring on the way home, and when I finally cleared the really heavy traffic there was a guy on a motorcycle running along at 70mph and towing a small trailer . Heavy rain, interstate highway, huge amount of tractor trailers and cars throwing up spray, limited visibility, was thinking that guy must have a death wish!

You are a better man than I, Duane. Camping for me now is a Holiday Inn. Too many nights spent at the bottom of a foxhole, sleeping on the cold ramp of an M577 Command Track, or trying to catch some sleep wedged into the front seat of a HMMWV, I guess.

Carl - the central part of PA got hammered yesterday. We expected to get a lot of rain starting in the morning and had a mix of sun and clouds up until maybe 6 or 7 last night up here. It's gusty and raining off and on now but it looks like we're not going to get anything like they got yesterday.

    Good morning everyone.
Glad you had a good time Duane. I never liked camping per say cause I always seemed to get an asthma attack at 2am. I like Mark's idea... :)
I think bass pro bought out Cabella's so maybe a little more variety.
Boat and Harley go away this weekend if the rain stops. Real hard last night with t/storms. First good rain in months. Just bad timing. Maybe some power outages tomorrow as hi winds are possible.
Not that I'm excited but it would be a good test of my upgraded full house generator system.
    Just for an hour. Lol.
If the toys go to storage then I'll work more on getting the snow blower on the tractor. I have no room to work now in the rain.
    Stay well people...

Mike - what type of system did you upgrade to? When we built, I put in an Onan 1200. At that point, they couldn't handle arc-fault systems so I couldn't put the sleeping areas on my system. Mine still is running well after 12 years so I don't need to do anything now - just thinking about the future.

    Hi Mark.
    Nice to hear from ya.
Mine is a simple system per say. It's not an auto start etc.
I use to have a 2300 watt old school gen that I ran a separate line to the furnace and a socket upstairs. I had to pull the fridge out and hook up. That's all I could run. We don't lose power very often but I have lost power for 3 days and that little gen kept us warm and food cold.
So I upgraded to a 7500 watt Ust man start.

    image.jpg

I ran a source input to the back of the fuse panel

    image.jpg

Then so I would meet code I installed a lock out to my box. I wouldn't have a prob not having it but I didn't want any chance of someone else screwing it up.

    image.jpg

I don't have to limit any circuit as I can run the whole house except for the dryer and range.
Cooking with the micro wave and electric grill no problem. I hated the fact I had to walk around with a flashlight in parts of the house so I did it this way. I can use power in the garage and use the door openers. It is not designed for a permanent hookup as there are features on those systems as you know I don't have. I did do a test with an electrician and he kicked a circuit breaker. It did what it was suppose to do. So I picked up that gen for 300 bucks with 4 hours on the Hobbs meter. 400 for the wiring and lockout. Yes im cheap. But I can't see going any bigger.
I don't think you were looking for this type of set up but my buddy has this outrageous diesel auto start system at his farm. Not what you want either... Lol.
I will say that if you are going to upgrade then IMO THE ONLY WAY TO GO is a complete house circuit. The new systems I'm sure will handle the arc-fault with an add on box or something. Like anything else, how deep are your pockets....
You and your family stay well Sir...

Our is an auto-start - kicks on 13 seconds after we lose power and shuts off when it senses that power has been restored to the main box. It powers most of the house including our heating system, well, septic, refrigerators and freezer, cooktop and various lights, the computer and tv. But, I don't have power in the bedrooms and bathrooms. The new systems can handle the arc faults so, if/when this one dies I'll replace it with a larger one to make sure I can handle everything. For now, though, it's fine. We went for 5 days on it when Hurricane Sandy hit with our a problem - shut it down each day to check the oil and the fired it back up.

Money is always the question. How much is convenience worth? :)

When I had my garage built 13 years ago, I had the electrician wire in a box and plug for my generator where the breaker panel is in the garage. Flip the lever on my breaker box which disconnects from the power company, plug in the cord to the generator, good to go. Not enough juice to run the toaster or dryer, that's ok, I wanted to at least be able to run my well pump and have lights. I just fired it up last week to make sure the carb wasn't gunked up. I traded a nice, but small Honda generator my late dad used I guess for RVing to a neighbor who had a bigger Kawasaki that would run my well pump.
I wonder sometimes what I'm doing out in the cold camping or backpacking, but I keep at it. Being in the cold like that, I understand helps ones immune system, I believe that, I rarely get sick. I took the wrong boots on the trip, I knew that going in, but being stubborn, dealt with the cold feet. I want to get a car camping tent soon and then get a cot to sleep on, a low profile camper I think too, don't think a camper shell with homemade furnishings would be very nice. I was fine the last couple days except for the cold feet. I need to do some research this winter on campers, they seem to be more than trailers, but I don't want a trailer.

So many different ways to get aux power. You use what you have...
I'm sure with the variety of sleepers available you will find something will suit you.

This is pretty much what I went with. I looked at the Generac-style auto-start rigs but they were all propane powered, and I thought "if the trees are down and the power is out who says the propane truck will even be able to get here?" Besides I'd rather not have to depend on a propane delivery in a situation like that. So we have a gas powered generator that runs everything except the oven, dryer, and A/C. Wired into the main panel like yours, very convenient. We start it up in the morning and shut it down at night. We've gone as long as 7 days like that.

Our rich neighbor has a gigantic diesel generator and two fuel tanks, also gigantic. His property is huge and the whole rig is well away from the house and hidden behind a berm. Must be nice to be rich!

My buddy Alan has that setup. He is on a farm so he needs power all the time for the fences etc. everything he has runs diesel. it's a no brainer for him.
Fuel is easier to transport. I agree with propane. Nice but having to depend on someone else in a crisis
Is not the way to go.
