Its a type of gm pump. You dont need hydro assist to drive it on the street, so you can save some cash and hook up the steering with the toyota parts, and work the bugs out driving around town and a few months later when ya got some money put the assist on it. One of my friends did the whole "build your own" system using surplus city parts and said he would never do that again. He had problems with it pretty much evrey trip and ended up buying a psc system a few years later. Im beyond cheap as fuck when it comes to well evreything but steering and brakes, i would save $$$ and just get a pre made system.

Look on pirate in the vendor sections for deals, that price sounds crazy and you may be paying an "RST" premium.

Damn, sorry to hear about the experience you had sourcing that kit through RST. I had a positive experience sourcing the parts through my builder. But I see your point. Whether you pay $1,500 or $2,000 you want parts to work right. I would be frustrated too if I paid all that money and the parts didn't work.

I assume you are sourcing the steering for the 2nd gent you are rebuilding. Correct? That might be more involved than the 1st gen parts I needed.

I have a Yukon Grizzly in my 14bolt, cause i wanted to save money too :D Go for it...it's Yukon's version of a Detroit sort of speak. Can't go wrong with it. Strong as hell and overall good if you can live with the typical behaviors of auto lockers. From what I've read, I would not use lock rights with those big ass tires. I think 37"s is the tallest tire people feel comfortable with lock rights.

My builder is a Yukon and PSC vendor. If/when you are ready, he might be able to give you a better price..especially on the lockers. PSC parts are kind of hard to get cheap no matter what.

Sounds like going directly to PSC for that part may be the way to go. At least for all the components, minus the hoses. I'll never screw with those again.

    I've seen similar stories.

Also, thanks for the info on the TC pump. I learned something new!

I'm bling and have a PSC pump on my truck :luvya:

But honestly PSC is the way to go over the TSD hodgepodge. It seems like you can piece it together just well enough to work for a while but everyone ends up with a PSC system in the end.

That may very well be the case

Yeah I guess I should have meantioned that part. It's for this truck: Basketcase https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/project-basketcase-another-resas-story.441592/page-9 I Have two 05 Tacomas, as though one wasn't enough of an expense.

Thanks for the information. When I bought that pile the owner gave me a "Detroit for the rear" thats sitting in my garage. I've pretty much dismissed it as crap since everything else I got from him was. I'll post pictures of it and maybe someone can tell me what it actually is. I'm not familiar enough with verious lockers to tell if he's completely full of shit. I haven't even checked to see if it really has 4.88s in it like he said, but I'll be doing that tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll be back to work on it tomorrow.

I have the PSC pump too. It's awesome :D I love it. Steer 40"s with lock to lock with 1 finger.

I was following your thread :D

Not having your own space to do the work sucks! It gets really expensive when realizing the rent money could go towards the project.

Hopefully the gears and locker are the real deal. That should save u some coin. I would save money by going with auto lockers. Put the money towards the steeering which is really hard to to build correctly on the cheap.

Stay engaged with the project. It can be overwhelming with time and money but it is totally worth it.

IMO its a waste to source everything through PSC unless you dont have the confidence to put a system together yourself.

Steering Box-Pirate4x4(Rollingoffroad) $175.00 (look up vonwilsonator he sells them for 85 shipped I believe)
    1.5BoreX8" Stroke Cylinder PSC SC2200K $185.50
Derale Heat Sink PSC DER-13250 $53.96
Misc. JIC fittings-Jegs (NPT to JIC) $69.45
    PS resi-$85.00
    Power Steering Pump Pirate4x4 1200x $100.00
Power Steering Pulley PSC PP2427 $49.00

    $717.91 plus hoses

Looks like a Detroit for a 14bolt but not 100% If it is and it is in good working order that should save you some $$

What kind of power steering pump is that on your list? Also, is the steering box from pirate rebuilt, drilled and tapped?

Does that have 2 cross pins? If not that may be a factory gov lock, which sucks. Google 14bolt detroit and you will see what the detroit looks like, its a lunchbox style on that axle, however if its a gov lock (factory limited slip, 1 cross pin) then there is not detroit for it and you may be SOL.

Doode..it means that it might be a Detroit locker. As slander recommended, Google photos of a Detroil locker for a 14b axle and compare the photos with what you have. The key item being the 2 pins.

Sweet!! TIMG_20161021_184739110.jpg hat'll save some money, provided it works. Now I just gotta get the damn wheel spacers off of it. I don't believe there is a socket known to man that will get to these bastards. How he got them on is beyond me. I've tried 6 sockets and none fit. 21mm is to small for the lug nut. 22 and 13/16 wont fit on the hole. I see a day with a cutting wheel in my future

Try thin wall sockets? (not sure if they sell these things anymore, but I have a small set that I bought years back)

When you find a socket that fits apply hit with a torch a little bit to loosen them up (or soak them with PB blaster)
