Looking for some info on the new Bully dog tuner. Not the old one that nobody liked. I want to know how it is working out for you, is it keeping the flash without re-setting? Will it adapt to future mods; pulleys, fuel mods, exhaust, intake? Does it come with extra maps? Guessing not due to warranty issues and the countless combos available. So I would have to find a local tuner that is experienced with the BD tuner and they would develop new maps that could be re-flashed?

If I decided to skip the Bully Dog and go with the UCON EMS from URD what performance benefits can I expect? It appears to have more safety protocols like "guardian".

Looking for first hand experience, links and reviews.

    Thanks

4 tune options are available for the 4.0l AT (IIRC):
    1 - Stock
2 - 2.85 pulley and stock shift points
3 - 2.85 pulley and performance shift points
4 - stock pulley and performance shift points

I could never get their online downloader to work properly and the preloaded tune had issues, when trying to download to my truck. I ended up spending 2 hours on the phone and online with tech support, and finally got it to load correctly. For now, I only installed option 1.

OK, thanks. I think I will skip the BD and go UCON. Too many negative reports.

Mine isn't really that negative, but their instructions need improved. FWIW, BD's tech support was courteous and helpful. The guy I worked with seemed to really care about customer support.

UCON isn't covered in the warranty, as far as I know.

    How much is the UCON?

I'm sure BD will have more maps in the future, but this is their first step with Magnuson.

If I didn't want the 3/36, I would have considered that route. Although, I'm not a fan of piggyback systems. Nothing wrong with them, it's just my preference.

Eventually that will change, but worth the extra $1500? :notsure:

If you order the magnuson without the tuner its 500 less, so $1000 more in the big picture. But it is only good up to an 08 unless you are skilled in electronics. The UCON has a much better record and offers a lot more.

    I don't disagree, but I have a '15 and wanted the warranty.

I didn't realize the tuner changed the shift points. That could be beneficial, depending on how it is done, especially for option 3. I'm curious, though I already have the TRD flash.

When I add the 2.85 and CAI, I'll go to option 3. That may be a while, since I'm out of funds.

Rob, just want to clarify, if Bulldog unit was unplugged, or removed from vehicle, then the tune is gone?
reason why i asked, I have a feeling people will break in the car and steal the unit, thinking it is a gps device. it will be such a hassle to constantly remove and store away.

    No.

I installed the tune, then removed the BD unit. If I want to remove the tune, I have to reconnect the BD and go through the removal process.

So far, I'm quite happy with BD.

Not to derail your plans here, but URD has the harnesses for 2005-2015 UCON now, they are just getting stocked up for their Supercharger kits before they release it as a standalone UCON. I'd say within the next few months or so they'll have UCON available for us. Trust me, I've been twiddling thumbs on this for a while.

Actually, my only issue with the BD tuner is the shifting between 3-4AT when in boost, but otherwise happy so far.

I'll have to try their other shift setting, when I get a chance to load it up.

A tuner can only get the trans to shift so much, go for a valve body upgrade if you want harder shifts

Right now it just shifts hard between those if I'm accelerating.
