alright Tacoma world. Need some help. I have a spare tire carrier mounted into my bed rail system. The tire is held in by 3 bolts (pictures to follow)

    1) no clue what this bolt is called
    2) no idea what tool to use to get them out. It needs to be skinny enough to fit between the bolt and wheel to grip it and unscrew it
    3) no clue where to buy it. I went to Home Depot and the guy said it's a specific screw called (now I forget) and told me autozone would know what it is and would have the tool.

I went to autozone and they had no clue what it is.

    Can someone please help!IMG_2210.jpgIMG_2207.jpg

    that is a lug nut

it is a security lug nut

it needs a special lug nut remover that is keyed to it, and slid over it, which
has a normal nut end a lug wrench goes on so you can unscrew it

    lacking the special key

that looks like a 'generic' security nut so any aftermarket wheel shop or tire rack might have a key that fits

lacking that, get a socket that just about almost fits
and hammer it on (this kills the socket) and then you mgiht
be able to get them off

or JBweld a socket on it, let it harden, unscrew it , throw it all out

You need something this key. You'll have to look up the number on those nuts to make sure you get the right key.

    Are you trying to remove?

Go to a specialty tire shop, they sometimes have a few keys laying around and can get it off for you. Or go to harbor frieght and get a couple of cheap sockets that you can hammer on and take them off.

Looks like locking style bolts with a specific "key".

Buddy of mine cracked the "key" while on the trail repairing a flat.
Toss that shizznit in the trash and get some regular OEM style.

The thing about these style nuts is they are meant more so for wheels that a socket wont fit in the wheel hole where the nut goes. These are a slim style nut. Can be used for security, but their design is not unique like security nuts. If those are gorilla nuts it should be easy to find the key. It may even be this part. GOR1921SD-KEY

These are what I have to use on my wheels in order to fit a nut and socket into the wheel. I keep 3 spare keys because they are thin and can break easy.

I have them on my truck and carrier, love these nuts. They are not locking but someone that wants my tires needs to have the key on them which they will have. My shop has a ton of these keys, they keep leaving them in my truck so I now have like 7 of them.

Thanks for all the help guys! I've been using this one socket and it fits, but its just a little too fat to fit between the wheel and the nut. Hopefully this works!
