Sure thing. Would love to link up with some Michiganders to join on the trip at least partially while we are there.

If anyone wants my number send me a message.
It's parallel parking at C&D along Mc Ewan and usually busy but everyone should be able to find a spot.
I think there only 3 or 4 trucks total so far.

Here's a link to all the ORV trails, also check out the snowmobile maps, there is a lot of dirt roads and desolation if you make a wrong turn. Also bring bug spray with high concentrations of deet!

Sounds like a correct turn to me. Thanks for the link. Thoughts on the best time to head up there to have decent wether and miss some of the bugs?

Right around now you have to keep an eye on the weather though. You could have a good snowstorm or you may have some awesome fall colors. If you want it a little warmer, I'd shoot for 2nd or 3rd week of September temps could be 30F or may be 80F. If you end up making the trip let me know. I grew up in Marquette and I can get you to some of the best fishing and waterfalls if you are looking for that. I'm in Grand Rapids now but I go up whenever I get the chance! Here's a couple Facebook pages to check out to show you some of what's up there:

Thanks. Most of the time when we are in Michigan we are area Detroit visiting the wife's family (i.e. Sitting at their house). We did a trip around the lower peninsula last year. We went to Petoskey, traverse city, Silver Lake among other things. We did make it up to Mackinac and Sault St. Marie. Decided we wanted to push more into the UP on the next trip.

A lot of cool places to explore in Michgian. I'd like to make it to the ice climbing fest one year but it's always right after Christmas and I can't ever get the vacation time so soon after the holiday.

    Hey everyone. Northville/Traverse City here.

Went to Drummond Island in the UP this summer. Great place for camping/wheeling. I highly recommend.

This will be first winter with a pickup. Ihave a 16 DC OR SB. I'm curious if any of my fellow Taco owners put any weight in your bed during the winter months. If so, what and how much?

    Thanks

I have a cap on mine,200lbs,plus misc gear.So I don't add weight. How is the truck working out for you, we met at the meet and greet. I would add some sand bags , just make sure they stay dry, don't want them to freeze. Also make sure they can't move around, in case of an sudden stop or accident. Good luck.

For my first winter I put probably 250 pounds in the back and that worked well. For the second winter I left it empty and that worked just as well for me. With a double cab and the short bed like you have, your rear axle is closer to the cab so you should have plenty of weight on your rear axle, probably similar to a full size RWD car like a crown vic. If you are light on the throttle you probably don't need any weight, if you like to drive more spiritedly then adding weight will probably benefit you.

Cinder blocks. That's what I had laying around.

Today seems like it would be the perfect day for a snowy trail ride. Maybe soon. I would like to go out when there is snow on the trails.

Not me. Ground is not froze under the snow. A snow covered pond looks just like a snow covered field.

I'd stick to trails I know well.
