2017 TRD Pro - differences between the Canadian and US versions?

What were you doing on Pender

 

I've ordered through a car broker who did some looking around for me. He did get me a good discount though.

the TRD Tuned remote resi are Fox supplied TRD tuned.
If you look on them they say TRD fox.

They're absolute bottom of the barrel fox suspension.
No where close to worth the 13k extra you pay for a pro.
fuck don't even have adjustable damping from what I've seen

 

Vacation. Spent a few days there at a bed and breakfast, then made a loop up to Whistler and back to Seattle to visit a friend that lives there. Stayed at 2-3 different places in the loop. Should have spent a few more days at Pender and a few more at Whistler and skipped the other places. Incredible trip. The training was separate form the visit to Pender.

To some its worth it. But for 13K difference for almost all aesthetics its too much. If it was a 6-8K upgrade I'd say worth it. If it was the 13K markup and came with an extended travel kit I'd be buying. You don't get enough performance over an OR.
If all you care about is the label and looks sure may be worth it. But when you're looking for better performance, not worth it to me, and there's many on here that feel the same.

I won't hesitate to admit though I love the looks of the pro, especially with the cement colour. If I was just buying the truck to daily drive and occasionally head off road to gravel roads or like semi maintained dirt roads with small ruts, small rocks and maybe a little mud sure. I'll be doing a lot more overlanding and rough trail off roading, not economically reasonable to buy a Pro and do all the same mods I'm doing to my OR, to make the Pro just as capable.

Sorry I should've specified, it is no where close to worth the money if you'll be doing any serious off roading or overlanding.

 

Not trying to nit pic, but I'm not sure it's a $13K difference. More like $6000. An off-road with premium package, but no JBL, is $38K and change, with no accessories. Automatic TRD Pro is $44K and change. Still not worth if for me personally, but when you figure in the resale the Pro will have down the road, It closes the gap a little. What does not make sense, is to buy an Off Road, and spend $4000 adding Pro Parts, just to get none of the resale bump the Pro will have.

I spent $32K on an basic SR5 Double Cab 4x4 auto, and added $2000 in a lift, wheels, and tires. I can't do any serious off-roading like the pro, or some of the rigs on here, but I don't off-road, except in a field looking for a calf, working on a fence, or camping.

DCSB off road is 40K, Pro is 53K.

Some may add the pro parts because they like the look. I was thinking the grill at first but changed my mind since after the winch bumper and light bar that will be on the bumper, you'll barely see the grill anymore lol. I'm not looking for resale I'm looking for capability, and the Pro does not have anywhere close to enough capability over an OR for the mark up, and with the money saved I can mod my OR to have way more capability than a factory pro could ever have. Almost the same amount I'd save on the OR vs the Pro could pay for all the mods to have a pretty capable OR.

 

You are dead right on the Capability. You can spend much less than a Pro, and have a more capable truck with some mods. The Pro is nice, but it still needs bigger tires and wider wheels. Adds another $2000 to the premium price for the Pro. Being I don't seriously off-road, I went with an SR5, plus I like the painted wheel fares. I laugh a little every time I see a Sport with the hood scoop.

 

Ya, if the price was maybe more of a 6-7k markup (in CND market) I'd say its worth it for the added suspension you get etc.
But at the price it is here, I feel I'd be kicking myself every day I consider how much I spent on the Pro with such little gain over the OR.

 

It is definitely subjective. To each his own.

I used to own an Audi A4. Modified the heck out of it...performance, handling, and other stuff...and was in the shop a lot fixing this or that.

In the end, i spent at least as much as it would have cost to by an S4. But when I went to sell it, it was still an A4...that in buyers' eyes, had been dicked with.

I then bought an S4, left it bone stock and it has been a much better ownership experience - for me. Ymmv.

Some people like to tinker and modify with aftermarket parts, but I'm no longer one of them. I drove the Off Road and wasn't really feeling it... so I'd rather spend $50k on something that i really enjoy then $40k on something that i feel lukewarm about. Also, there is something enjoyable about having a vehicle that is quite uncommon - which the TRD Pro will be.

 

If I had the time to put into the aftermarket gear i'd likely go that route but for me I'll eat what I see as a $3000 difference or so for factory and ease. I still have a bunch of other things I plan to do to it anyways, even without touching the shocks or lights.

Also went up a few logging trails today to get a feel of the 4x4 and did a few small sections in Lo with MTS on. My friend took us down a 60 mile long logging road in a Prelude in August and that was night and day compared to the Tacoma.

 

Truck looks great. I was at my local dealership yesterday and saw a Tundra TRD Pro in the same colour and was really digging it. Was a bit tempted to be honest, as it could have driven it away that day instead of waiting ~4months for the Tacoma TRD Pro, but it is just way too big for my day to day needs.
