Gonna run the Mojave Trail November 11-13. Limit of 6 rigs. Its also the Rock and Brews weekend and I'm certainly not trying to take away from what is guaranteed to be a fantastic turnout. It's also Veterans Day weekend so myself and another Vet @Willbeck are gonna go get crunchy in the desert. Anyone interested hit either one of us up.

Edit: @nfs257 Chris, you salty sailing sob. You better come, too

So I was planning on eventually removing my dual electric Flex-a-Lite fans eventually and going back to a stock clutch fan, well...that idea just got forced to the top of the list.

Was driving to work yesterday morning and at a stop light I noticed white smoke coming out from my front wheel wells....pulled into a 711 parking lot and popped the hood, relieved to see that it wasn't the motor but that the wiring harness going to the e-fans was basically melting for seemingly no reason. Wasn't making contact with anything hot, just the wires were burning up  When it rains it pours...

I could just get a new wiring harness from Flex a Lite but I found a shop that'll install a stock clutch fan for a pretty decent price and I wanted to do this eventually anyway. Don't think the e-fans ever really worked that well (overheating in 4lo at times). Hopefully this resolves that issue at least. I'm just happy this didn't happen on a trail.

BTW if anyone wants my dual e-fans let me know, I'll let them go for cheap (without the wiring harness of course).

maybe, but this was 7:30am yesterday and it was still only about 70 out...they survived all summer but I think the wiring harness was just shot. Fortunately I didn't hit much traffic on the way to Pasadena so I could get it to the shop without having working fans, kept an eye on the temp gauge and it stayed in the middle the whole way (had my heater on full blast too, that was comfy).

I never fully trusted them since I got my truck, they were wired up so they had to be turned on/off manually which isn't the best idea for radiator fans IMO. Forget to turn on the switch or accidentally turn it off and you can overheat right quick, especially on a trail. I'll be more confident now with a regular clutch fan that's activated by the thermostat.

oh I've got one clamped to the roof rack haha, I need to figure out a better way to mount it though. It's mounted using those metal brackets that you tighten/loosen with a screwdriver (forget what they're called), it keeps it secure on the rack but it would take me at least a few minutes to get it off if I needed it...not so convenient if there were ever an emergency lol

I saw something like that at the hardware store where I bought it, but it didn't look like it would hold it tightly enough against the rack to keep it from moving around while I'm driving....maybe I'll pick one up though and give it a shot

I had the same issue with mine last year. Melted it when it was 107 outside at night. I like the stock fan the best. If I were to do it over again I'll run brushless motors.

Assault industries sells a quick release extinguisher and mount for I think $140. Believe it's a 2lb and clamps are for 1.75" tubing. Buying one for the yxz. I'm sure even the guys with no cage could find a spot for it

30 second walk from our hotel in baja. I'll attempt to get some glamorous shots of the ninjataco in this awesome town lol

If you haven't been down to baja or ensenada at least, I highly suggest it.

Yeah I just got the stock fan clutch put in this afternoon, drove up to big bear tonight and i can tell a huge difference. Truck is SO much quieter than it was with the e-fans and runs smoother. The best part is my AC works 10x better now, lol. Doesn't hiss and wheeze anymore. I wish I had ditched those stupid e-fans back when I first got my truck

My a.c. Got way better too. Stock fan pulls a lot of air.
