Thanks, I thought I did alright considering the condition and knew I had to act quickly. Hasn't had the waterpump/timing belt done but I know the tech at Toyota and he'll do it on the side for me at half the cost.

I've done a mod or two
Does your camera have high dynamic range (HDR) turned on or something like that. I can't figure out if your paint is some cool metallic mixed color or if your photo settings are just bad.

Lol gotcha, I was really confused it makes the truck look like it has a high end custom smoked paint job or something. You should bring the photo to a paint shop and tell to make the truck look like it.

Technical question for the 95-97 owners... Anyone ever have issues with lights being on when they are turned off? Headlights first it was just my right one now it's both sometimes... Noticed while it was running to gut my interior for system changes... It seemed to go away after playing with the switch

    BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
My 2.7 has 257k miles, the other day on a 2 hour each way road trip I heard a knocking noise at a stop sign in a small town, started expecting the worst, pulled in to a gas station and shut it off, checked the oil, clean and full like always as expected, so I started the truck up and heard the serious knocking again that turned out to be coming from the power steering pump of all places... So i kept on driving and now the noise comes and goes as it pleases... Lol I never heard a Power steering pump knock before, and when it knocks if I turn the wheel then the knock goes away. Funny stuff. Maybe I'll get a new pump eventually but for now, nah...

@Minnetacoma I have never had an issue like that before but GOOD LUCK!

Regular cabs just get me all excited...

Until my wife and 5 month old son have to ride with me.

Just found this thread and want to jump in. 239,000 miles on the 3rz here. Not my daily anymore so 500,000 is still a long way off.

    None. Yet.
Just joined TW yesterday, but have been lurking for a couple months now and doing all the easy/cheap stuff to fix it up for now.

1997 Tacoma regular cab w/ 2.7l engine and only 88k miles. I have corrected the paint as best I can by hand for now with compound, polish and wax. LED gauge fix, and some other minor exterior fixes. Just need to get some touchup paint for the chips on the front edge of the hood, but overall in great shape. Been in the family since new when my grandfather bought it.

Hoping to eventually put on bigger tires, maybe new rims and a small lift. But I'll have to work that out around all of the normal parenting responsibilities.

The hood on mine is chipping the same way, it's gotten bad over the past few years.

Nice truck though man! Starting out is pretty easy because there's so much to do to them.
