I heard today that it's possible to hack the 3rd gen key fab to do be able to activate remote start capability. Was wondering if there's any truth to this

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
There is no hack for the key fob, but there is a remote start system that lets you use the key fob to remote start the truck.

    Directed DBALL2 bypass

It taps into about 15 wires and allows you to use the oem remote to start the vehicle

    https://www.directechs.com/VehicleCompatibility.aspx?p=-1&v=10468&ps=1&s=0&c=0

Click the more details on it and it will show all the features. I would bet money this is what was installed in his truck, it 35 bucks on Amazon prime. I ordered it a few weeks ago just haven't had the time to install yet.

Clazzio leather seat covers, CBI T3 front, SOS sliders, SCS Ray10s, 285/75/16 Duratracs, debadged, extra bed D-ring tiedowns, Advantage TorzaTop, OEM bed mat, custom center console organizer, Husky liners, remote start.
I had remote start installed by the dealer and it uses the factory remote. If I did it over again, I would go with an aftermarket fob for longer range, feedback, and not killing the engine when opening the door.

Local installers are telling me even the aftermarket ones are still shutting off when the door is opened as well.

Toyota is the only one I know of doing this. My wife is little pissed at me over it. I got rid of her 16' pilot due to issues dealer didn't want to address. Forced her into a highlander with the agreement that I would have remote start added. Needless to say that didn't work out. She says if it cuts off don't waste my time or money.

Even if it off atleast the engine has warmed up at that point.... Better than a cold start imo.

Several threads on this already, I'd recommend using the search function. I'm on my iPad and can't easily go find those threads for you. Fortin is one brand that's an easy install, others out there too.
