I've heard of some people getting a OR 4x4 with NO tech package and NO chrome bumper.

Can anyone confirm if its possible to get the truck built like that?

If not, anyone paint or go aftermarket on it so they can post suggestions?
That chrome bumper has me tilting. My preference...it needs to go.

Im not certain about getting color matched without the tech on the OR. Maybe you could work somthing with your dealer after the fact?
I know most folks with chrome are either trading chrome for color matched if they can find someone, or they are painting out themselves.
I would like to upgrade my bumper, so I'm not stressing the chrome on my rear end yet.

You can get a sport with a color matched bumper with no tech package but not a OR. The chrome is actually just plastic and its fugly

You can either plasti-dip the chrome end caps or replace them with the factory black SR ends caps which is what I did as I didn't want to plasti-dip them.

There's a lot of info here on how to take the rear bumper apart to change the end caps which is fairly easy. The black plastic end caps are of a different material than the chrome ones and match the plastic center cap on the rear bumper.

I got the new black SR end caps from Camelback Toyota Parts for $165 shipped, and then I sold the chromes ones for close to that. Page 5 of this thread is how I went about taking the rear bumper apart.

Back when I had a chrome bumper I plasti-dipped it. It was super easy, looked great, and I never had a problem with it as far as durability.

I feel your pain. Got a kid on the way. Stockpiling mods before wife cuts me. I foresee truck mods being put on hold shortly.
