Sorry to bother you guys but I purchased a 2005 DCSB and havent been able to get it into 4 low. Is it possible someone can give me the proper procedure to get a standard tacoma into 4 low.

I have tried neutral and switching from 4H to 4L and it just blinks. Doesn't engage.

Let me know what I am missing here.

    Thanks for your time

After you switch to 4L put in back into drive and it should engage.

Make sure you depress the clutch pedal ALL the way. That was the hang up when I was having trouble getting mine into 4lo.

Mine doesn't seem to want to go into 4L.

Any trouble shooting methods or fixes anyone can help with.

Shift on the fly from 2Hi to 4Hi, drive until the 4wd light goes steady. Once in 4Hi, stop completely, depress the clutch to the floor hard, then turn the switch to 4Lo. It should go in almost immediately, and the 4Lo light illuminate.

If you are not in 4Hi, are moving even a little bit, or don't depress the clutch hard to the floor, it won't try to shift until you turn the dial back to 4Hi, meet all the conditions correctly, then try again.

Shifting back to Hi range is the exact opposite procedure.

If it still doesn't work after that, there may be a problem with the transfer case actuator or switches, but I expect it's "user error". The first couple times I tried mine I had issues too.

You really do need to mat the clutch turn the switch and wait. If it sits there and blinks do in all over again from 2WD. I would kill to have my old shifter back it 's the one thing I really hate about my 11 I think spinning all the junk in the front end is dumb too yeah I want my lockouts back too.

Is it beeping? Are you sure 4L hasn't engaged?

There's a mod called the yellow wire mod (look it up) that will cause the 4L light to blink while it's engaged. There's a chance that the previous owner did the yellow wire mod.

If not, here's the procedure: In 4H, come to a stop with the truck out of gear. Lift your foot off the brake and immediately press it again firmly. Press in the clutch. Turn the knob to 4L. Reverse the process to get out of 4L

That's what I have to do.

I've tried everything on here so far. Not going in to 4L. I have to assume I have an issue in the transfer case or electrical.

And yes I too dislike the switch instead of the shifter.

Mine goes into 4L when in neutral and rolling about 1-2 mph.
I use to fight it all the time until I started doing it while moving, slowly.
My Jeep Rubicon works the same way, slow roll for 4L.
