My 2006 4cyl Taco (140K) developed a "miss" this last week.

I replaced the plugs 10k ago.

I just replaced the coils and its better, but not gone.

Injectors, a sensor or real problems?

    HELP?

    Thanks

    Do you get a CEL?

What is the CEL code it if you have one?

Check your coolant level and see if it is dropping.

Cylinder Compression and Leak Down Test will check for the issue.

I just did a flush and fill a couple months ago.
    level is still good.

timing chain jumping a tooth would be worse than this i think.

it develops the "miss" about 2200 RPM.

I would clean the MAF with MAF Cleaner and reset the ECU by removing the Battery Cable for a few minutes.

I seriously doubt that your timing chain jumped a tooth.

Just because the plugs are only 10K old does not mean they're fine. Have you pulled them to check gap and for cracked insulators?

It's also very odd that you are not getting a CEL it is indeed misfiring, are you sure it's not just an exhaust manifold gasket leak or cracked manifold causing a "ticking" under load?

It idles fine. The miss or vibration starts about 2200 rpm - more under a load versus cruising.
I had the frame replacement recall done a couple months ago. Driveshaft or U joints?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    Start with new plugs

hey everybody, thanks for the replies.
I took it into the dealer thinking it could be frame recall related -
it ended up being the front u-joint.
The service manager said they went thru the truck torquing up everything, then dug deeper finding the u-joint.
it runs great and feels like new.

I really like the results of the frame recall:
I sit up higher and it rides more like a truck than a car,
and it will haul more as the rear leaf springs are a bit beefier.

    Thanks all.

its ok fellas... Im about as backyard mechanic as it gets... This was about as weird as ive ever had in a vehicle.

I guess the fact they went thru the truck before finding the u joint makes me feel a bit better.

I did get the dealer to cut the labor in half as I wanted it changed when they replaced the frame and the advisor talked me out of it.
