I have a 1996 Tacoma 3.4l 5 speed and lately (worse in the mornings) it has trouble getting past about 2200 RPM. It did this a while back but I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and it went back to driving fine. Since it has started again I have cleaned the MAF, throttle body, replaced air filter, and cleaned the intake tube and nothing changed. There was also oil in the tube.. I guess I will change the plugs and wires next but I changed them around 30k miles ago and the lack of power is only around that 2200 RPM threshold. Any suggestions?

Remove your front o2 sensor and see if it's better. I suspect a clogged cat converter. Removing the front o2 will put your truck into "open loop" but will also remove the exhaust restriction. Report back.

    Any codes?

It might be this weekend before I get around to it but I'll see if that helps. My engine sometimes comes on because of the o2 sensor but only periodically.

I messed around with it some this evening and I'm pretty sure it's the converter. I also put new ngk plugs in it and I couldn't tell a difference. I didn't pull off the o2 sensor but you can tell that something in the exhaust is stopped up by the way it sounds. I may try to put a new one on tomorrow or Sunday.
