This is about 1995 Ext cab 2.7L, 5-Speed manual, 4x4 manual locking hubs. No ABS.

That beast is 21 years old with over 316k miles and now I'm taking it out of the country (to Europe) for the rest of her life. Now the problem I see is that it still has almost everything straight from the factory made 21 years ago. I was expecting to replace some parts long time ago if they fail, but they just don't. WTF Toyota? What is the lifespan of your parts, that Ford has to replace just after warranty expires?

So here is the list of parts I would think could but never failed:
    1. All engine internal components (minus head gasket)
    2. Entire powertrain including wheel bearings and boots (minus clutch)
    3. Entire suspension (minus shocks).
    4. Engine pumps like water pump, power steering pump, AC compressor, fuel pump
    5. Brake master and slave, clutch master and slave
    6. Starter
    7. Alternator
    8. A/C pump
    9. Rear brake drums and shoes

Stuff that I replaced during last 19 years (since I own the truck):
    1. Tires
    2. Front brake pads and rotors
    3. All Shocks
    4. Clutch
    5. Head gasket set
    6. Spark plugs and wires
    7. Distributor rotor
    8. Starter contacts
    9. Gear shift saddle
    10. Exhaust manifold
    11. Catalytic converter
    12. Windshield washer bottle
    13. Horn
    14. Filters
    15. Fluids
    16. Battery
    17. Lamps and bulbs

What spare parts should I ship with the truck in case they fail (shipping auto parts to Europe sucks big time)? I know oil and air filters, maybe front rotor/pads set. What about the rear brakes? Any other cheep and vital parts are about its end of expected life?

Ball joints, definitley. Check them to verify their condition but at that mileage, it'd be wise to have them on hand if you're looking to take parts you may need soon.

I did alignment about a month ago and I asked him to check the entire suspension for loose or worn parts. Just wanted the second opinion. He did that (I was in the shop the whole time) and he did not find anything wrong. :notsure:

I almost paid extra for interfering :smack:

That's good they've held up so well for this long, the lower ball joints are a weak point especially on first gens. But if you aren't doing any hard wheeling with your truck then I'm sure you're good if the shop verified it. I had Toyota look at mine and they told me they were fine, a month later I noticed them leaking on both sides and they said they had to replace them lol. But that was the stealership and they aren't always known for being totally thorough with just "checking" on things.

I wouldnt trust any shop that wouldnt let you watch work being performed...

I get it if some places dont want you driving your vehicle into the shop for them or hanging around offering a hand to speed things up, but id still try finding somewhere else that is less anal about that stuff and get to know the mechanics and owner(s)

No wheeling :sorry: - it was my commute. The truck is all stock BTW.
OK, got it. I will check lower boll joints. The price is not that bad.

I would just replace lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods . Not expensive and kind of easy to do.

Do you know part numbers? I don't want not OEM parts - I found original Toyota parts last much longer than non OEM.

...^^^... Toyota has a good track record of using excellent vendor supplies parts (especially 21 years ago).

Haha damn you're going to be the only one in Europe driving a Tacoma as a daily driver. I've been all over Europe and I only ever saw pickup trucks in the countryside on farms. I never did see one in the cities. When I was in London, I saw more $100,000 dollar sports cars than I did pickup trucks.

Just curious, why are you bringing the truck with you? Shipping can't be that cheap.

I saw few Nissan Titans over there as a "city car" (too nice to drive on mud on some farm), on farms a tractor is the a working vehicle (has more of road capability than any pickup can be).

I'm bringing 4Runner too but frankly 4Runner is to nice to be bashed around the city. Tacoma with steel bumpers can take rush hour beating much better than "all around plastic" 4Runner.

Did you guys ever replaced rear brake drums and shoes? It's impossible to see what's left over there without removing the drum. I had front rotors and pads replaced twice already, but nothing on rear.

I finally replaced my ball joints because the rubber rotted off. The parts them selves were like new.
I imagine rocks/dust must be what does them in. I'm around neither.
If you put on rear pads before leaving they're bound to last the life of the truck. I didn't think mine even worked since I've never changed them but got in gravel the other day and they locked up.

    Wait.....no timing belt?

I understand they last a LOT longer than we give them credit.....I'm of the opinion the tensioner loses it's 'springiness" and lets the belt flop and break. My Sienna has a tensioner clacking right now, new belt, old tensioner. '98 model.

    Nope. It's 2.7 L. 4-banger has timing chain.

So the truck is "sailing" with just minimum of parts I know for sure I will need. I did windshield replacement, got new wiper blades, set of front rotors and pads, 5 oil filters and 2 air filters and set of new BFG KO2 tires. The rest I will worry about when the time comes. I'm just hoping that local Toyota service may import parts for me with reasonable cost.

This truck is from salt free California so the frame is almost like new - did not even qualify for preventive spray. Now it is cold here in Europe and I see they use salt on roads like there is no tomorrow. This makes me thinking about horrible stories of rusted Tacoma frames in "winter season" states. What would you recommend for preventive frame maintenance to have long and healthy life of it?

Cool. I found it available here. Even the price is the same as in USA. How many spray cans (13 oz) I need to protect extended cab?

Thats cool you're taking the rigs with but shit i bet youd possibly have access to some of the bad ass toyotas we cant get here! Like new straight axle stuff, like the new old style land cruisers, prolly get diesel pickups too, who knows. We sure get the shaft here in the states! Friggin Africa and Australia man, they sure are spoiled as far as getting those awesome toyotas that are still being made new and built to last and be rugged and are simple to work on! Unlike the absolute shit we have nowa days here.
