    Hey y'all,
so im in the process of redoing my rear suspension. right now i just have an AAL in the rear, with extended 5100s. and i realized when instilling that i am going to bottom out the 5100s before reaching the bumps. i went with extended 5100s because i will soon be going dakars and weight in the rear and wanted a little extra down travel.

Measurements: Peak of bump stop to the frame : 5.5"
Length of stroke in 5100 at stand still : 5"

so i will bottom out .5" before reaching the bump stop. no bueno. I've been looking into getting some different bump stops, but all the ones i can find are the same height as stock (2.5" are how tall mine are). Im wanting to do a u bolt flip, and get some larger bump stops. do any of you guys have a combo that will be tall enough to engage bump stop before bottom out? also is there any bump stop that allows a spacer or shim to raise it up to desired height?
    thanks guys.

You could also do superbumps with shims.

Superbumps really squish down far. I'd make sure you have more shock than bump when you're touching the bump.

You need Sumosprings. Can't beat them.

Toytec u bolt flip? Like your set up. May do the same thing. Can you add spacers under your bump stop on the frame to make it taller?

You need to keep in mind that the bump stop is a block of rubber, and **RUBBER COMPRESSES**!!!
That means that you can't fix this problem with bigger blocks of rubber -- you need to put a block of STEEL between the frame and the rubber block, so that when you bottom it out REALLY HARD, it can NEVER bottom out the shock.

The moment you hit the bottom of the shock, it belongs in the trash can.

Here is an interesting variation of the gm bumpstop idea, without ubolt flip. uses an icon hydrobump strike plate, 22$apiece. It looks as though there is enough thread to space the bump farther .The member, @hx989 stated that he flexed and did not bottom out. Total price sub100$. I am considering this idea.

Now if it just wasn't pee yello.... :(

I called icon last week. the striker plate part # is 154018, $22.05 each.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Wheeler's Bumpstops have a spacer available to raise the bump stop.

Yep, I installed the Toytec u bolt flip kit. You can add about 1/2" of spacers between the bump stop and frame to make it taller.

Great idea thanks for the part number. quick search $23 each on Amazon. I think I'll probably use these on my rear setup.

Do you know how these compare to timbrens as far as hardness/ height?

I towed a 6x12 uhaul about 1K highway miles using a combo of a 10 year old single AAL, a Hellwig helper spring, and Sumo Springs. Total weight full was 10820(empty weight truck & trailer was 6080). No problems on the move and the Sumo Springs were an integral part of my rear suspension when I hit a bump on the highway. I eventually replaced the whole back end with Dakars, but I kept the Sumo Springs on.

Thanks. I have Dakars now and I'm thinking about getting the Sumos or Timbrens.
