If you feel the need for 4H in the rain with your Tacoma I'd suggest buying new tires...

Yes the manual says to put 10 miles a month on your 4WD system. But there should be absolutely no need for it in a typical rain storm.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Bad. Do not do this. Part time 4wd on dirt/slippery roads only. While in 4wd the transfer case is locked so the front axle usually wants to slip on at least 1 tire.

Nobody mentioned "minimal turns" that I'm aware of. I was poo-pooing the notion of engaging 4hi and leaving it engaged for all forms of everyday driving when roads are wet, because quite frankly, wet pavement provides enough traction to bind your drivetrain and accelerate wear on your cvs. No, they won't grenade right away, but over an extended period you will find that a loaded cv versus an unloaded one won't last as long. Yes, cvs spin all the time in our trucks. They don't see any significant tortional load though, unless 4wd is engaged.

Yeah seriously dude..........don't do this. On a side note I hope the east coast gets a ton of snow this year. Had a blast driving in over a foot last winter.

My observations with this fine truck: keep a good set of tires on the truck, no need to use 4WD in the rain....driving the truck in 4WD on a straight dry road for a few miles every month or so will not hurt anything....
