Because we don't have enough corn. Dude that said it was bad to run non-ethanol must be a corn farmer. Everyone else knows that the opposite is true.

You first. You didn't give any proven facts, you just rambled bench racing wives tales.

One thing I will give you that was semi accurate. Running e85 (which nothing we own can do) allows for massive boost on a race motor, because it runs so cool. So you build a very strong low compression naturally aspirated motor, add massive boost while using e85, and you have the power that comes from compression. Not the fuel itself.

Pump e10 is a government plan with the initial good intentions of extending our fuel supply to reduce foreign dependence. However, it's proven that conversion of the corn to fuel consumes more energy than is saved. The government can't 'let go', because the mega farm corn lobby is too strong.

Not to mention the government is too filled with knucklehead bureaucrats.

    Someone gets it.

The Ethanol Lobby is a machine of gargantuan momentum, and the rapidly increasing costs of RINs have US refiners by the balls.

You are correct. I have written my local congressmen about this. None of them get it and do not seem to care. We need everyday Joe's in there that understand what this stuff does to our outboards, chainsaws, weedeaters, etc..

Weed eaters and chainsaws are small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. Refiners needed a substitute for MTBE. What they got in the long run was strangulation.

Actually yes and no, more power can be made on ethanol than on e0. I ran my 2006 Mitsubishi EvoIX on E85. It was dual tuned for 91 e10 and e85. On the e10 91 map we were only able to run 22psi of boost without knocking. Due the properties of ethanol, the e85 allowed us to run 30psi of boost and much more aggressive timing. The result was a difference of 60whp. I mean, yes technically the power increase didnt come from the fuel, it came from the increased boost and timing changes, but that would have not been possible without the e85 addition.

As to the original post, ethanol free fuel is better for your vehicle as it will increase your mpg. Most newer vehicles have fuel systems equipped to handle ethanol at varying levels. And as far as the tuning is concerned, your ECM will adjust to its best ability to whatever you put in it provided its within the rec-ed range. Which I believe on the Tacomas is E0-E15 (maybe e20?).

I replied before you posted this. lol.

And you dont need a massive boost race motor. My evo was stock block, stock internals, stock turbo......only thing under the valve cover that was changed is a set of high lift cams and the valvetrain to support the cams.

As I was told by a friend that has had to rebuild several chain saw carbs; Some of the small engines use an acetate reed valve in their carbs, and over time, the ethanol will soften and distort the acetate.
Whether that's accurate or not, I don't know. All I know is that my 49 Ford 8-N Tractor will vapor lock more readily on Ethanol gas, and I only run non-corn gas in my power tools, and no issues yet.

    Methanol is not Ethanol.

And your link only confirms what was stated by another poster.

Ethanol is a substance that is created from the fermentation of food crops in factories, while methanol is a highly poisonous chemical produced synthetically. Both substances are variants of alcohol that can be used as energy sources, but have different methods of production and practical uses.

    Simplist explanation:

Methanol and ethanol have hydroxyl groups, because they're alcohols, but one has an ethyl group attached and the other a methyl group.

    What does that mean?

They are two very different types of alcohol.

    Ethanol is naturally occurring.

Methanol is not, as it is a synthetic molecule.

In refining, ethanol is added to gasoline to improve the octane number and then that gasoline is sold to the consumer.

The RACE fuel you are referring to has methanol added to it POST refining/blending (unless the methanol is used neat). That gasoline was ALREADY speced at 87 or 91 octane or whatever, because it was blended that way using refinery blend stock or ethanol. Someone bought that gasoline AFTER it was sold by the refinery, and added methanol to it for a very specific purpose: RACING.

I'm not sure what's so confusing about this issue.

Some people are denser than others.... I guess the spelling difference didn't give it away.

    Methanol
    Ethanol
