per pages 248-251 it says when to use, "rough surface. wheel spinning", is the same for both auto LSD and dif lock. i understand the diff lock it locks both wheels, do not totally understand LSD. why would there be the two functions for the same scenario? why can't you drive around town in LSD mode. back in the 60's i put a 4:56 Posi Traction (LSD) in a car and off i went burning rubber all over town, i was a kid then. so what is the difference from what i put in back in the day and the Auto LSD in the truck. need a little schooling.

diff lock >> LSD in many cases. LSD >> diff lock in others.

Today's auto-LSD as I understand it is not the physical LCD you had back in Bedrock. Instead it detects wheel spin via the ABS sensors and will individually apply braking to the spinning wheel sufficient to drive power to the other wheel on the axle.

Locking differential is just that; both sides of the axle move together. Great in the slop. Not so great when turning a curve since each wheel travels a different distance arc... but the locked differential forces each wheel to rotate the same amount... Something's gotta give and hopefully it's just traction.

I believe there's clutches in an LSD rear so you can go around turns without fucking up the rear end. The locker locks both axles so they spin the same, we don't have a true LSD in the Tacoma, it's all done with braking at each wheel as mentioned. You can feel it in 2wd when going around a corner in wet conditions - goose the throttle enough to get wheel spin, it will engage.

A few of the Lexus vehicles have a LSD rear ... I think its called Torsen ... or something like that.

In an open diff, the wheel with no traction gets the power.
Electronic LSD, brakes that side allowing power to go to the side with traction via the differential gears.
